Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-20FS120 20" TV
I have a Sony KV-32FV15 that stays on channel 66 which happens to be the first of the favorite channels (dont know if its a coincidence or not). ive tried auto program and it does nothing. there is no picture unless you go to the favorite channel list then you just get a preview of the channels. the other inputs work fine but im unable to plug the cable in and just watch tv. any ideas?

SOURCE: Sony KV-32FV15 TY
I have had my Sony KV-32FV15 for about 2 years now and nothing has ever gone wrong(even going through several moves.) I recently moved again and when I plugged in the TV, you can hear the sound perfectly but the screen just stays black. You can not even hear the squeal that the TV makes when comming on. Is there anything that I should initially look at to troubleshoot. I cannot afford at this time the $250 fee to repair my TV. I look forward to your input and hopefully I can get this TV working again.

on your sony tv (not cable) remote - hit the MENU button, then scroll right to SETUP on the screen - the first choice - caption vision - is probably set on a close caption or text - change it to off. i had the same problem - would pop up occasionally and only on certain screens. this fixed it. hope it works for you.

have over 10 years experience in electronic tech
I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your TV will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. If you're still in warranty, the TV will be repaired at no charge to you. The warranty would likely be at least one year from the date of purchase from the manufacturer. If you purchased an extended service plan they will repair the TV at no charge as well.
If the TV is no longer in warranty, it will likely cost a minimum of $150 parts and labor. This is assuming that you only need one circuit board or small part. If the problem is more than one of the circuit boards, the price of repair could go much higher.
I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

If a tech came to your home they should have an authorized paper and phone number that you can call to check to see if the tech is authentic.
Sounds like you have registered your TV and that they have found that this board has a problem and Sony is willing to take care of it.
