Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Have you checked the breakers? Or tried the WBM 39 in another wall outlet or power source? Alternately, you can try unplugging the unit for to reset/revert the electronics to factory default. Should these be not corrective, then it would be needed to make use of a DVM/VOM and check for the presence/absence of supply voltage to the electronics inside. Foremost to check would be the stepdown transformer that supplies the B+ for the logic/controller boards.

Pls post back if you are considering a DIY (do-it-yourself), access/familiarity with a multitester and comfortable working with electronics/electrical devices.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

First, check to see if the light comes on or if there is any fan, motor, or other sound coming from the appliance? If so, the refrigerator isn't really completely stopped--go to the specific problem you are having. If not, try adjusting the thermostat to a colder setting. If that doesn't work, read on.

Second, check to see if there is power getting to the refrigerator. To do that, plug a lamp or other device into the same outlet the refrigerator is plugged into. If there's no power, check the fuses or circuit breakers. If the fuses or breakers aren't the problem, contact a qualified electrician to restore power to the outlet.

If there is power to the appliance but it still seems to be stopped, there may be a problem in one or more of these:

  • Wiring

  • Thermostat

  • Defrost timer

  • Compressor

  • Overload and/or relay

That is a short on gas problem but make sure that the fan is running and check the settings on the inside of the unit so that you can have a circulation around the whole unit. If all this is good then Check your warranty or get someone to check for a gas leak. Get fixed and charge it with the write amount of gas and your problem will be solved.
Good luck

Problem is defrost thermostat, defrost heating element or defrost timer and or low gas in the system. Remove the back panel in the freezer and look to see if the evaporator coils are frozen solid with ice. If so the problem is no defrost cycle. If no ice then the unit is low on gas and it has a leak. If the refrigerator is old... recycle it and go buy a new refrigerator from Whirlpool.

Did you give the Refrigerator 24 hours? Did you lay it on its side shortly before plugging it in? Does your wall outlet have power or maybe the circuit breaker is popped? Otherwise you probably need a replacement

Hi Lollipop, partially working fridge? A fridge either works or not, cold air is made in freezer then distributed to fridge via a vent. In your case WBM Series fridge, top mount freezer blows air down a vent (back centre of chiller compartment). A common fault with the WBM Series is both the PCB and Interface Panel (PCB beside compressor back of fridge, Interface is display panel front of fridge).
So if freezer is cold and fridge not, try a fan motor. If compressor doesn't work either comp is faulty or PCB has blown(has a burning smell).. Hope this helps you and maybe many other ppl.
