Question about Toshiba (5105-S701) Graphic Card

1 Answer

I suspect my graphics card has been swapped by my comp. guy.

I recently had my laptop cleaned. Every since I've had it back I have had graphic card problems. Could he have changed mine for a cheaper card? How can I find out what card came w/ my Toshiba satellite A75-S206.

Your graphics are integrated into the motherbaord, so he couldn't have changed it out on you. Your Satellite has a ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000 IGP with 64MB shared memory.

You can try to update or rollback the driver to see if that solves the problem, or contact the guy who serviced your laptop and see if he has any ideas.

Can you add graphics card

Generally speaking, no. Most laptops have their graphics card soldered on to the main board. If you have an integrated graphics card, you cannot add one. Even if the laptop has a discrete graphics card, replacing it is a daunting task. Working on a laptop can lead to ruin if you don't know what you're doing. Even if you do get to the graphics card and remove it, the replacement card can be extremely expensive. In general, it is not worth it to try and upgrade the graphics card, or add a graphics card, to a laptop.
On a desktop, you most certainly can add a graphics card.

My hp pavailion laptop`s screen is half white

Hook an external monitor to the video output on the back of your laptop to check for a clean signal, if you get a full picture it means the video graphics is fine, then the LCD screen is suspect or possibly the connecting cable, "graphics card to screen" if on the other hand both screens show the same white problem you have a motherboard issue which houses the video graphics card. A proper estimate would be in order.

Games crashing and icons on my desktop scattering

hi this does sound like your graphics card has a conflict with another device, your best bet would be to go to the site of your graphics card manufacturer and download the latest drivers for your card, un-install ( actually delete ) the graphics card from the system, ie...add and remove programs, look for drivers for your graphics card, then remove, also go to your device manager and delete it from the hardware so there is no trace of it ( don't worry it will still work it will just default to minimal settings on re-boot) re-boot the system, if it says found new hardware and tries to install your card click no you don't want to install it, then find where you downloaded the drivers and install them and then that should stop the blue screens, games..this also could be the sound card has a conflict with something, as i know allot of games just crash to the desktop for this reason, try doing the same for the sound card, download, remove and install, as above...any more probs just reply and i will see what else there is, if you can also post the blue screen error on here to will be helpful as you can determine what the cause is...hope this helps

Hi I need a better graphic card in my acer aspire 5536! Right now its got a ATI Radeon HD 3200 and it sucks.... need to know if I can change it myself and which cards fit in my laptop ?

Hi

Thank you for your query

Unfortunatley unlike desktop PC's, laptops do not have swappable graphics cards as they are built into the motherboard

So in essence to replace the graphics card you would be swapping out pretty much all the internals of your laptop i.e. to swap graphic card you will need a new motherboard, if you need a new motherboard then you will need a new CPU etc etc

Apologies again

I hope this has been useful

Cant boot up compy with new graphics card to reinstall drivers

if you have an older graphic card swap it out with the new or if u have onboard video use it as your video. Once you boot up uninstall the nvidia drivers and turn off pc. Now reinstall the new card and install the drivers from the CD or the new ones from the nvidia site. Dont use the windows device manager.

Having Problem with my GeForce FX 5700 Graphic Card

The card may be overheating and switching to lower DPI to save on the power consumption and heat. Try using a diagnostic utility to check the card temperature. Also, check the heatsink/fan to make sure that it is properly seated on the card.
