Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
When I try to use the fax or copy function, document pulls half way in and stops with the message scanner failure. This is not a feeding prolem.
Please note that the scanning works just fine. I suspect that there is a control which does not activate the scan operation with those two functions. Additionally,I hear what sounds like a grinding gear noise at the point where the document stops feeding. I have the same problem with my OfficeJect 5510 All-In-One. It can scan FAX multiple sheets using the feeder with no problem, and it can SCAN a single sheet using the flatbed, but for some reason it can't seem to use the feeder for SCANNING multiple pages...
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: HP LaserJet 2840 Scanner problem
Yes, but I don't see any actual paper jams. I have a Vista O/S and I've been reading that that might be the problem; the 2840 scanner driver is not compatible with the Vista O/S and HP hasn't produced a solution yet. I appreciate your efforts, thanks.

SOURCE: Printer won't stop jamming
sounds like your printer wants to form it's own three piece band(kidding here).
sounds like you rollers are dirty or have something on one or both of them..like tires on a slippery road, these need to be clean and dry.

SOURCE: Top feeder won't work properly
have you tried cleaning the separator pad inside the automatic document feeder?
try to Load one or two sheets of unused plain white full-size paper into the document feeder tray, and then press Start Copy Black to pull the pages through the automatic document feeder. The plain paper releases and absorbs residue from the rollers and separator pad.
If the problem persists, clean the rollers and separator pad manually
