Hi, i'm trying to play a game called Combat arms. I've played it many times in the past but yesterday and today it started acting up. I keep getting the Buffer Override Detected message when i try to enter the server. I'm stressed out because I really enjoy this game and if i play another game I don't want to get the same message again. If it helps, my computer also runs on windows vista. Thank you
A buffer is a place to store data. You have a buffer overrun when to much data is sent to that place. It is used a lot by people who write virus programs and try to start a virus. It would be a good idea to check your entire drive for virus. The above link explains the same thing.

well if you' ve seen frequent flickering in your screen this is the sign of there's problem on your video card and sometimes at the middle of game or doing work at computer you will be hang, try to clean your video card it could be keep your screen smooth and recover the quality of graphics, how to clean your video card, unplug power supply unit, open your pc cover, disconnect vga cable from video card, pull out your video card, scrub the multi slotted terminal by eraser head of pencil both side, then put it back video card and vga connection,if the screen has good quality after cleaning and persist again the symton of flickering, replace your video card.have a nice day, rate my fix, thank a lot.
Try starting in safe mode and restore your PC to a date when it was working properly. Then increase the page files allotting it to all partitions, such that its now 3 times that what it was. These page files will be used from your HDD as if it were an extension of RAM. This should prevent any buffer over-run problems that you are facing now....sodeep PS also clean your C drive if junk files, cookies & stored internet pages(History), defragment your HDD to improve performance.
Ok this could be a CPU Issue, after a while the thermo paste on the heatsink which is on the CPU under the fan the paste will dry out and when it does the cpu once starts working under load due to the games being played will shut down to protect itself and the board.
What you need to do or get someone to do it for you take out the Heatsink reapply thermo paste on top of the CPU (by the way thats what I call it) may be known in your region as Thermal grease (also called thermal compound, heat paste, heat transfer compound, thermal paste, or heat sink compound.
