You need to go to start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager and see if it is listed under dvd/cd rom drives. if not then go to start, control panel, add hardware and let windows search for it and install it !!

Hi!

The chances are that the drivers for them got corrupted and you can install them fron your motherboard cd. To install them go to Control panel-> add new hardware-> search for new hardware-> if it shows up then its good else add them from the list. It will then install the drivers from your motherboard cd (the cd you got with your system or from the cd you got with your disk drive).

If this doesn't help then check for the connectors(going into disk drive from power supply and motherboard) by opening your pc.

Please rate the solution.

Thanks
Rylee

My hp 4520 probook is not picking up the cd/dvd drive, no type of cd is visible in "Computer" folder or accessible. It does not automatically pick up the cd/dvd and ask usual functions like "open with"...

no OS stated, no CD stated, but asks...
there are vast types of CD disks, not one stated by you
what is ? whats on it , what does the label say is it home made CD
non of that can we know, and is KEY to the best answer.
for autorun to work 4 things must be good.
1: the CD drive shows up in device manager, and be OK.
2: the CD must be good. what is it, not stated by you. yet.
3: the autorun feature turn on via the My computer explorer.
4: the CD must have an autorun file, many dont.

so lets forget AUTORUN, (must walk first then run, LOL)
first as always it the DRIVE must be pulled in and not bad.
2nd the Device manager must show it as must next it shows, up
in Diskmanagment and last must show up in My Computer.
or in W10 that is now called. THIS PC.
Microshaft changed this name for local explorer 4 times. for kinks.
and sux that, having to tell that.

sure seen this 1000s of times.
and all ways from sunday , you name it ive fix it,
even bad media or media from China it this pure trash.

lets say the Device manager, shows the drive.
what to do next? well that is easy
go to walfart and buy a music disk
this is called a CD-DA disk.
this disk works on all optical drives made.
if you see it in MY computer and click it , it will play.
music. as designed to do .

one other thing to do us load the Probook drivers from HP
on the PC, matching what drive you have,
mine is a DVD drive, upgraded. and can burn DVD-R.
if you have windows install disk put that in,
now.
you can see files now for the first time if the CD is a DVD
and the drive is a DVD drive, you see fails.
if the MS orHP disk is DVD and the LT only has CD drive
its hopeless.
if you have modern drive you can read most files.
even MP3., WAV music
and watch movies on DVD.
if you upgrade to BRD, blue ray drive you can run BR movies.

Older cd/dvd drives many not be able to see or run
any burned drives, the first ones could not do that.
like DVD-r or DVD+r home burned disks.

again see if a real store bought music disk works (CD-DA)
if that works good move up to more complex disks and test.
if not the DVD drive is dead, or the drivers do not match your drive.
to match any drive.
remove it and read the number on it.
it has a tag.

so you said all type but do tell if it is a store bought CD first.
for music, not a burned disk by you or others.
a disc from a store, real, music and not scratched up.

got this one? there are many types offered and used,

I am trying to add software to my computer and for some reason its not reading the disk (the disk is new). Install wizard does not come up either.

Click your start button then click my computer then on my computer you will see the icon for your DVD/CD ROM drive right click on it then click explore. Then the files inside your CD/DVD ROM will show on the screen then on application menu click view then details. It shows the details of the contains of your CD then click the application for the software you wish to install. It is an .exe files. You can now install the software. Or you can also right click on your CD/DVD rom then click properties then click autoplay.

Why my dvd /cd not work properly , in hardware it show the it is woorking properly , but if i put any cd and insert it then after its not read the data in cd

Does the led on the dvd/cd drive flash after you've put in a disk? Go into "My Computer" and check that the drive is indicated there. If it isn't, then you would need to check the drive connector inside the computer to make sure it is connected properly and that it is not loose. If the drive is indicated in my computer, try another disk, perhaps a music cd, and see if the drive reads the disk. If it does, that tells you that you may have some defective disks. If the drive is detected in my computer, and no disks are read by the drive, then I would assume the drive is defective and replace it. Good luck!

Audio error

Did you drag the video and audio files.

There is no reason to format a dvd-rw, if you want to use it again
just delete the files on the disk, if you format it, you could cause it to stop working or not accept files.

You format a hard drive to change format, or install a OS.

You don't use format on CD or DVD's just to erace them.

Nero also has an erase option.

Laptop not show cd or dvd when i put it

Well, for starters, is your cd/dvd turned on in the bios.  Some but not all computer have a setting for this.  If your cd/dvd drive is removable, shut down the computer, remove the drive.  Reboot the computer and shut it down again.  Then reconnect the drive and start the computer back up.  This will make sure that if your drive is working, windows will redetect it.  You can check device manager to make sure it is not disabled.  If none of this works, you may have a bad drive.  If you really must reinstall windows, you can get an external cd/dvd drive pretty cheap on Ebay.  Just make sure you go into your BIOS setting and change the boot menu to external drive.  I hope this information helps.

MySims game not showing to be in my computer

Does your disk drive work perfectly otherwise? Are you sure that your disk drive is capable of playing the disk involved? Older computers might have CD drives, incapable of reading DVD disks, which most of the games today use. Of course, besides, older computers might not be able to run it in the first place, so it might be a superfluous statement.   Look at the CD to see if there's any scratches or glitches. They might prevent the disk from reading properly. If so, return it to the shop for a new one.
