Ok my problem is that I am trying to use Imgburn to copy a file to my blank DVD -R and Imgburn is not detecting any dvd's after I put the dvd in my disk drive E. SO I go to my computer and double click dvd drive E and it says to insert a dvd inside of it, so basically it is not reading the dvd. Please tell me how to fix this so it can detect my dvd.

are you burning a cd or dvd? burning a cd is pretty easy...windows will do most of the work for you. put a blank cd in your cd rom/ dvd burner drive. it will ask you what you want to do with the blank cd...vista usually asks you to format the disk...select ok.....a blank box will pop up....drag and drop your files to be burned into the blank box.....once you are done putting your media onto the disc....eject the disk...before the drive opens a box at the bottom of the screen says that the disc is being prepared for use on other computers. when it ejects, it should be done....you can try to put it back in to the cd drive and see if your data/media files are on the disc. ......now burning a dvd is alot more complicated....do you have software for burning dvd media? if you do, they have help me files and tutorials........some more good advice....youtube also shows good tutorial vids on burning. just type in "burn a cd or dvd".
your gonna need conversion software to convert your movie files wether from avi to dvd files mpg to dvd and so forthn once converted you will burn those dvd files to an dvd cd using an software like Nero and so forth.
1. get WinAVI wich can convert any video files to dvd files.
2. get ImgBurn = free, then burn movie files to cd. make sure though before burning that in WinAVI that you go through advance settings and set the TV system to NTSC for US, if set to PAL it won't play in your dvd player, cause thats european version. if need more detial info let me know
try using nero as explorer may not readily detect blanks. Also ensure the writer is a dvd writer and not just a dvd rom To ensure compatibilty with the ever increasing range of media, an update to the burner .is usually all that is needed, this is called firmware upgrade Most drives will read anything, and most burners are
now "all formats", but you may have a burner that is
either one or other, not both, thats to say, your burner
maybe only a "DVD+R/RW" - note the "plus" sign.
whereas your blank media maybe "DVD-R/RW"
just insert a blank dvd in writer and send the file to dvd drive showing in ur computer by write click on the file and choose send to say dvd rw drive f.
when all the files are transferes to your dvd drive. click on my comuter and open this dvd drive there you see a option in the left panel " write these files in to disc".
click that option wait for some minutes until a popup comes saying writing completed .
now your file has been successfully written in the disc.
Use a cd cleaner to clean the lens and then see to it the firmware is upto date. Apart from this try out with different variety of cd's and dvd's too. If both cd and dvd is not detecting then ur lens could be the fault. And it is not worth replacing lens for a Internal drive, but u can give it a try with the local stores.
alright. bubul78, your post is in no way shape or form a solution for the problems given by other users. I too have a acer laptop with the philips dvd drive in it, device manager detects the dvd reader and says it is running with no problems. i can hear the drive read the cd when inserted, tho when trying to access the drive through my computer the window hangs at the hourglass for a min or so, then says please insert a cd. only solution is that something is physically wrong with the drive. ok so solution found, replace the cd drive. but where is acers sight to order replacement parts? poor site navigation in my opinion.
