Question about Monte Carlo (5LCR52MW) Fan

1 Answer

Only have 2 speeds on a 3 speed ceiling fan- replaced switch, no

My granddaughter pulled the chain on our 3 speed Monte Carlo ceiling fan too hard which broke the 3 speed switch. I replaced the switch which was slightly different than the original. Now the fan has only two speeds, low and high. Two positions of the switch set the low speed, one position sets it to high speed. I've tried switching the wires to correct the problem to no avail. I'm thinking I may have damaged the speed control capacitor when I hooked up the new switch incorrectly. Would it be a good idea to try replacing the speed control capacitor?

Clothes not drying, but dryer runs & heats
1. Defective operating thermostat---test thermostat,, replace if defective
2. Fan or it's pulley loose on shaft--tighten set screw
3. Incorrect heat or timer setting--reset timer
4. Clothes too wet when placed in dryer--wring clothes before putting them in dryer

When you press the on button nothing happens unless you hold it in what could be causing this

There is a switch on the motor that replace the push to start in the circuit once it gets up to speed. Either it is not reaching speed or the switch has failed.

Sounds like something is loose inside the dry drum

Unplug dryer!!

There should be 2 5/16th screws on the bottom panel in front. Then there are 2 more on bottom of top panel. Take off wires to door switch. Take off 4 screws to front bulkhead. Pull it off. Note how belt goes on. Take it off and pull drum.

I would first rotate drum by hand and see where noise is coming from. If inside one of the baffles in drum, you can easily lossen up screws to remove baffle to get things out.

Dryer button will not stay down. When you let go of the dryer button it stops. If I were to stand there and hold the button down it would stay one. While on it clicks

There is a centrifical switch in the motor that will only close once the motor is up to speed, the start button you push energises the starter winding, and once the motor is up to speed the run windings are energised by the centrifical switch.
The switch is not hard to replace but you will need the correct one, take the old one with you unless you'v got the complete model number from the motor.
