I was having the same problem but now it is solved. The same trick worked for me, you need to move the switch that you can see after you open the scanner cover on the left side on the UNLOCK position.

The 5010 error indicates a scanner error. The scanner unit cannot detect the home position, or the scanner unit warming-up is not done properly at power-on. On the LCD, "Scanner is not operating correctly." is displayed.
The 6100 error indicates a logic board error. The check sum value is incorrect in the ROM check at
hard-power-on.
Fixing these errors is more expensive than replacing the printer. Sorry.

5010 is a scanner error from the scanner on top. Canon has no parts for these and you can only replace the entire top of your machine. If you can get it apart, you might clean and lube, but it's not made to be opened.
5010 is a scanner error, either worn out scan lamp or sensors. Canon only replaces the entire scan assembly, if you like I can get part number and price.
Hello, The error 5010 refers to a scanner issue, make sure all the connectors are seated and all flat cables running to the scanner unit are firmly seated, turn printer back on and the error should clear. I hope this helps.
There's no specific info on a 5010 error even on Canon website, but ANY error in between
5000-9999 needs Canon's attention, so if it's under warranty, get a replacement.
