Gateway Motherboard

Select 750 and 120GB HD

By Mini Me - usenet poster

I have a select 750 (AMD Athlon 750MHz, Jabil Kadoka
motherboard). It came with a 20GB HD, Win98.
I wanted to use a 120GB HD with pre-installed XP on it.
But after choosing the OS on bootup, nothing happens..
I updated the BIOS so it can see larger HDs now but to
no avail..
Has anyone run into this before.
Any tips would help.
regards.

Hi!
Here is your problem...you need to go to the Gateway website, download
and install the available Bios Update. I too have the Jabil
Motherboard, but the serial number is slightly larger than yours:
4000646. My motherboard will only support a harddrive of 65.5 gigs.
Getting the bios update will enable the motherboard to recognize
harddrives larger than that size.

The drive size isn't the problem. You will need to reformat and
reinstall XP once you've moved the drive into the system.

An XP install from one system won't work on another with different hardware.
