Question about Car Audio & Video

I installed my Jensen VM9511TS, ipod interface and rear view camera - works great! I just bought the XM interface, the XM tuner and I'm having problems. The XM turns on, plays on the Preview station for about 2 minutes and cuts out! I spoke with Jensen (Audivox) and they told me it's teh XM Mini Tuner. I went out and bought another one at Circuit City and the same thing happens. Reloaded the drivers to the interface from XMdirect. . .no dice. Any suggestions?

As I said, the headunit works, actually plays the Preview station and then the audio cuts out. If the headunit powered down, it would be a fuse or similar problem. The head unit continues to work, the touch screen displays XM Preview, but no output. Clearly not a fuse issue.

The headunit remains powered. Three is no audio output. The touch screen displays XM and Preview. . . no sound!!

I can't get signed onto XM as they require 15 - 20 minutes of continuous use once they activate the tuner. They cannot activate the account!

XM told me that if it works properly, the Preview channel should be continuously active.
I lose audio after 1 or 2 minutes!

Sirius/XM is the only service provider for these units.

Dowloaded and installed the firmware 3 times!
    Nothing . . .

Audiovox/Jensen said contact XM. XM said contact Audiovox. The retail - an ebay electronics power seller (read that "you're out in the cold seller") said contact Audiovox. That's why I'm here. I checked all connections, the 8 pin plug has been plugged and replugged. Nothing. So far the only solution is to throw the whole thing away!

No I haven't. Certainly, I can try it. Why do you think it would work?

It looks like there is an issue between this paricular audiovox model and your XM.

When this happens often there is no way out, as it is a factory defect.

If I was in your shoes I would insist in calling XM, see Help & Support.

XM distributes different models for different stereo manufacturer, ensure you have the right one.

Let us know how it goes and give us feedback on your problem.

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Have you tried leaving the units (both the XM and the Jensen) powered on even if there is no sound for about 30 mins?

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Appreciate considering to try the idea of 30 minutes. As in most satellite based systems, the receiver would need time to initialize itself, lock into the satellite signal depending on where the unit is in the footprint. Again being a receive only and to my understanding, all information would be embedded in the incoming signal, including the activation. To my knowledge here is no way for a receiver (receive only) to transmit back to the signal source that it is ready for activation, it has to wait for the next cycle of data and thereafter you will be prompted on what steps to take to finalize activation. Hence the 30 minutes wait. Presumably, that time would be more than sufficient for the XM receiver to have downloaded all the necessary information.

Alternately, you can inquire from Sirius/XM any other method of account activation (though I doubt since activation is always paired with the receiver). Or you could try bringing the XM mini receiver back to where it was bought and ask them to activate/test it for you.

Sounds like a bad model production run. i would call the manufacture for a list of bad model numbers and see if you may have bought one. the next time you go to the store that you bought it from, see if they have a mini tuner with a different model number. this may be defective.

hi, I almost forgot, the unit has an 8 pin connector from the tuner to the unit , pull it off and inspect the pins and make sure they are all OK and that the key is straight when you replug it. Good Luck!

What Xm satellite service provider are you with?

It sounds like you only have the preview service and not a subscription.

    You have a preview account

You said "they can't activate the account because you can't stay on long enough"

This makes no sense,Anyone can activate an account even if they have no XM device.

I was trying to hook my ipod up and im not sure where its supposed to plug in

Usually Ipod ready radios have an additional cable that runs out of the rear of the unit. This is usually routed to somewhere near the cup holders (which is where most people put their Ipod). You may need an adaptor if you have a USB input to your radio on the front. As you know, the Ipod has a different interface than USB.

First, is the radio even ipod capable. If it is, there should be an additional cable that plugs directly to the ipod or iphone. Usually when you attempt to use Sirius/XM, a phone number pops up on your radio for you to call. You will probably need the part number, which will be on the back of the radio. If you are not into all that trouble, you can purchase a new one that has all the functions you want and you will have all instructions and information available. Hope this helps.

First off, is the unit equiped as ipod ready or are you using an auxillary input. If your unit is ipod ready, this means it has the ipod cable to the unit. If you are using an auxillary input, it won't show the name and yes you will have to control your music from the ipod itself. Just some things to think about. If your unit is malfunctioning, I recommend visiting the local stereo shop.

Sounds like it could be a setup issue (software) inside the stereo itself. Maybe try and check out if the manual says any thing about the issue, if not im sure your local stereo installers could help you out.

I need to add and auxillary input to my 2003 chevrolet silverardo bose radio. how can i wire one in?

THE GM12-AUXV2 by P.I.E. will work for you.
It plugs into the factory radio changer port.
With this device installed, you will have created an auxiliary audio input to your factory radio, which will allow you to plug in any external audio source, like a portable MP3 player, satellite tuner, DVD player, or iPod, and play the audio from that external audio device directly through your factory radio. This is a direct connect device and NOT an FM Modulator. An FM modulator requires you to tune to an FM radio station in order to listen to the audio from the external audio device. While this is a direct connect interface, it is only an audio connection and does not allow you to control the external audio device that is connected to it.

What do i need to listen to xm radio on my hd5112

Hi 1958moncie

You will need one of these kits to add to your Jensen receiver. Not a big job, you unit is ready for it, and all that you need comes with the kit. A FixYa rating would be great for tracking down this info for you. Cheers :)

I need the two knobes for Jensen VM9511TS

Here's the URL for the manual:
http://mobile.jensen.com/jensen/docs/man/VM9511TS_DOC_OM.PDF

Contact their technical support line and ask for a referral for the part. There might be an authorized reseller or parts dealer in your area (if not, they'll point you in the right direction). Their support is actually pretty good.
