HP iPAQ 2215 sync problems with Vista and Windows Mobile 6.1

I have an older HP iPAQ, model 2215, and it used to sync with Windows XP Outlook 2003 on my old laptop without problems. I now have a new Toshiba laptop with Vista on it, and I also purchased and downloaded Outlook 2007 Small Business, because I wanted to use Business Contact Manager. Now the HP CD will not load - incompatible with Vista, so I called HP. HP said that downloading Windows Mobile 6.1 from microsoft mobile device center would work and my iPAQ would sync. Not so. My computer didn't recognize the iPAQ when I plugged in the USB. 1) Can I use Outlook 2007 with my old iPAQ, or must I only use Outlook 2003? 2) If I CAN use Outlook 2007 Small Business, what do I need to download to make my iPAQ work?

I had the same model HP and when I upgraded to Vista there was no problem, but when I later upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2007 it would not sync with Outlook. The computer "sees" the handheld and the files, but will not sync.

I cannot access windows vista to sync with my hp 6310 ipaq

Greetings - I'm going to guess that perhaps you installed Activesync 4.5, For Vista or Windows 7 you have to install Windows Mobile Device Center which is available HERE.

If you are using mobile device center that isn't the problem and Microsoft has a dedicated section of their website dedicated to solutions syncing Windows Mobile device with Vista, way too much for me to go over here. There's a great deal of trouble shooting information about sync problems HERE.

Thanks for using Fix Ya

Window Vista syncronizing with iPAQ 3835 problem

In order to sync any iPAQ with Windows Vista, you will need to download and install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx.

Activesync will only work for XP Operating Systems and earlier.
Notes
  • To find out whether your version of Windows Vista or Windows 7 is 32-bit or 64-bit, click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties. The version is listed after System Type.
  • You can use Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 only with phones running Windows Mobile 2003 or later. ActiveSync and Windows Mobile Device Center won’t work with Windows Embedded CE 4.2 or 5.0, Pocket PC 2002, or Smartphone 2002 devices. (To see which Windows Mobile operating system you’re using, and if your phone doesn’t have a touch screen, click Start > Settings > About. If your phone has a touch screen, click Start > Settings > System tab > About.) To sync content to any of these devices, you must use a USB or serial cable and your computer’s Internet connection and File Explorer.
  • You must use Microsoft Outlook 2002, Outlook 2003, or Office Outlook 2007 to sync your e-mail, contacts, tasks, and notes from your computer.
  • You must use a USB cable to connect your phone to your computer the first time you use Windows Mobile Device Center to sync.

HP Ipaq h1940 won't sync with Vista

Hi. While holding power button, and pressing reset will do a hard reset to your PDA (reset the device to its factory default settings). So if your PDA is working well, don't do it. As for the syncronization with your Vista PC; Winodws XP uses the ActiveSync software for syncronization, and for Windows Vista, Microsoft developed a brand new syncronization software called "Windows Mobile Device Center". It can be downloaded here: (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-download.mspx). When you download/install this software to your PC, you should be able to connect your PDA to your PC without any problem, and definitely without changing any OS in your PDA or PC. Hope this helps.

A hard reset will get it back for you, but you will lose your data. So either backup first, then restore it. Or sync to PC and back if it's just OUTLOOK data.
