A resaler told replaced my order for a Netgear CG814WG with a Netgear WG614. The CG814 says it is a "cable modem gateway" while the Wg614 says "router". Will the "router" work or is resaler looking for a sale of an added modem? Or?

Re: replace netgear CG814WG with WGR614 Possibile???
CG814 and WGR614 both are wireless modem, with 4 LAN port.
the difference is CG814 use so call "stateful" packet inspection, where WGR614 is using NAT, which is less secured, and easily attacked.
both have spam filer, and you can set restriction as to what website or content of the website.
CG814 should cost more than the WGR814. you should ask the resaller for the difference.

Hi, from what you are saying it appears the router is hanging, maybe it can't handle the traffic, try upgrading the firmware from the configuration utility of the router. PS: In games is NORMAL to have more traffic on the "upstream" side because it's refreshing what you are doing, and when you are browsing you only send little packets and you receive a lot of packets.
Just plug the cable modem ethernet into the input to your router and you will be fine. Just remember, if you decide you want to make any changes to your router settings through your browser, make sure you hook up an ethernet line from your laptop to the router before making any changes. The reason for this is if you make a change in security settings on your router while wireless, the router will reboot and if your laptop did have the settings changed in it, you can be locked out. Not that you can't get back in, but it is a pain to have to do.
