WEAK SPARK AT PLUGS

That truck should have no points. It should have electronic ignition. Sounds like bad wires or bad coil(s).

It could be one or both of the items you discussed. In addition, did you change the rotor when you changed the cap. If the cylinders have individual coils the coil could be weak as well.

Shaking

I take it that it shakes when the engine is running but the transmission is in park. You will need to locate which cylinder is not firing. If you have a thermo thermometer, you can check the temperature at the exhaust port for each cylinder. The one or ones with the lowest temp are not firing. Pull them out and see if water in on them. If so you have a head gasket or head problem. You can also , while the engine is running, pull the plug wire out of the dist cap one at a time to see which cyl is not firing. Be careful not to get shocked by using insulated spark plug wire pliers.

1997 chevy 1500 pickup won't start

You need to check if it is a spark problem or a fuel problem. Check to see if you have spark to the plugs by removing a plug wire from the dist cap, hold it 1/2 inch from the tower in which you pulled it from and have someone crank the engine over. If you have a strong spark, then it is a fuel problem. Take off the air cleaner and squirt some starter fluid into the throttle body. If it starts you have a fuel problem. Check the fuel pressure with a pressure gauge. Should have 45-50 psi depending on engine. If you have no pressure check the fuel pump fuse in fuse box. You may have a bad pump. You might try tapping the lowers part of the fuel tank with a hammer while someone else is cranking the engine over. Sometimes that will jolt the pump into pumping.

My 97 chevy pick has a random missfire

Possible plug or wire. At night in a dark place, have the engine running and spray, from a water bottle, the plug wires and around the spark plugs. If you see a spark, you found the problem. If no spark is found you will need to pull each plug to see if one is fouled out or not firing. To test the wires check them with an omp meter. They should have 4000 omp resistance per foot length. Possible crack in dist cap.

1997 chevy 1500 z71 cylider 1 misfire

Start by inspecting the spark plug. If it looks ok, swap it with another cyl and see if the miss follows the plug. Do the same with the wire. If the miss changes with the part, that is the problem. If it stays with the cyl make sure you are getting spark from the dist cap. If the miss is still there, check engine compression. If it is good, may have a bad injector or mechanical problem or vacuum leak

Weak spark at plug

Check to see haw strong the spark is coming out the dist cap. If it is weak there, possible bad cap/rotor/coil/ module. Make sure the wire from the coil to the cap is good.
