An institution has added a wireless router to their network. Now anyone who
gets on to the wireless can see all the workstations and servers on the
network when they get on in Network Places. No problem I guess if (a big
if) everybody on the network protects their shares.
They offer internet access through a proxy gateway. What does the proxy
really buy?
Is this setup vulnerable?
Is there a cheap way to eliminate the workstations and servers from showing
up?

If change my scopeID to something other than the rest of the networked
computers.
You can't see a single thing on the network. The whole network just
disappears.

You need a firewall / NAT router on the internal network side of the
Wireless access point. Then you are at no more risk from your wireless
"guests" than you are from the internet in general. Should cost you around
??100 for something like a Zywall 2 firewall appliance. See
# for details. We have one of
these setup that works well

Does your AP have a netbios filter? That would filter out displaying the
stations in "Network neighbourhood".
