Question about Philips 42FD9954 42 in. Plasma HDTV

Philips Plasma NO LIFE

Problem: A philips 42FD9954/17S Plasma tv set that has no picture. The set cannot be turned on by the remote or the power switch. The light at the power switch does not come on red or green. I have opened the back of the set and tested the fuses and they are good. I had the same problem (with 42FD9954/17S) that when turned on the unit, the green LED turned off and came back to red again some time later. I kept turning it on and once it went to a clicking relay sound and blinking green LED with it. It did that for a while and stayed turned on. I noticed that it is temperature sensitive. Colder the room is more often does it. Used a hair dryer and blown hot air into the unit at the left bottom grills. It helped and started to tun on quicker. Later it has deteriorated so bad that I took it a part and after several ice spraying test showed that on the middle big board (power board) there was an electrolyte condenser went bad. It is the one one which is at the middle, bottom center of the board near the fixing screw. There are two of them (cylindrical objects). The left one was the culprit. However when I fixed it, it turns on immediately but goes blinking red after that. Phillips say it is a static discharge problem. I might blown something when soldering the parts. I don't know what. Any ideas?

Are all the caps good on the PSB.? Most sets have Samy boards and they used very shotty capacitors. Some show NO visual clues of being blown as in poped at the (X) top. They just vaporize/dry out. Do you have a cap tester?

Black spots blocking picture on plasma TV

Main board is likely the issue or worst case is a defective main screen called a display panel. Voltage checks will not usually help with this type of problem since it will likely have to be traced with a scope.

3-5 years is average life on this type of set and Philips is known for parts at that age becoming unavailable............

My Philips 50" plasma screen won't work. the sound

It can be the power supply, Z-sustain boards failures due to bad caps, blown fuses. Yopu should alos check the Y-SUSTAIN board also.

50' philips plasma tv has sound but picture is distorted

I sugest you to change the video resolution settings on the PS-3 to see if TV sets to any one resolution...if you have any other video out (analog from PS3)...connect the out to TV and check video at different resolutions. If PS3 has Deep Color settings turn it OFF.

My Philips 50pf9631d plasma tv turns on then red light blinks 7 times! Philips no help. Local electronics store wants $500 to fix! Set is only 3 yrs old! Please help.

Are you getting picture or sound at all? If not, you could have a very common power supply failure. If you get sound or picture, then you may have a faulty capacitor or resistor on one of the system boards

Resetting philips 42pf9730a/37 remote

There is a firmware that can be updated via usb from philips. This fw was used to correct the tv powering on with no picture randomly (they called it a maintence session) but it was a problem. The tv would power on on its own and do this..

But... This will not resolve your problem if the set doesnt work when normally powered on. I know this first hand as I dealt with philips under warranty on this exact same set not too long ago.

The problem is with the main control board and y sus board. If the set is not under warranty, good luck finding the parts as they are $$$$$.

They replaced mine as they couldnt find the boards needed, I waited a month and said enough was enough.

But there is no simple fix for this one. Combination of 2 problems.
