Re: can't use my printer I have the serial number but not...
What type of printer is it?
You need to uninstall the printer drivers reboot and then download the new printer drivers from the printer's makers website and reinstall them again. This should fix all your printer, and scan issues.

Locate the Serial Number
The serial number of the MX882 is located inside the printer, as shown below.
With the printer powered on, open the Paper Output Tray (A).
The above illustration shows a PIXMA MX870.
Lift the Scanning Unit (Cover) (B) and fix it with the Scanning Unit Support (C).
Wait until the print head carriage moves to the ink tank replacement position.
To the right of the print head carriage, inside the
printer, is a white sticker that is attached to a metal plate. The
serial number is located on the white sticker. Please see the
illustration below. The serial number starts with four letters and ends with five numbers, for example: ABCD01234.
1-just lay the paper on top facing up and hit copy and it will feed in to the rollers and print
2-open the scanner, and lay paper face down using the built in marker, "edge", and close lid hit scan
You have probably installed the XP driver from your CD. You need to remove it, and then install the proper "Vista" package from Lexmark's website.
