Hi,

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

Wild guess the updates may have affected old sound card driver. There may be an updated driver for the sound card. I believe Glary utilities free version is providing updated driver information. You may want to try that.

Computer slow is really a headache to users. Therefore, people always ask question about how to get a slow comouter faster. For that, you must firstly know why computer slowdown. After diagnosing the problem, you can fix slow computer more easy.

The most possible causes of slow problem for an old computer.
1 Corrupt registry is the number one cause. In short, the registry is the fort of the system. The most important date and setting are restored in the registry. External change may damage the key and make it mess up. In that case, you may face a blocked Windows. Visit here to cleanup registry and speed computer.

2 Discontinuous harddisk is know as the NO.2 reason. I would not talk about too much. Here just show you how to defrag a slow computer.

  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Right-click the local disk volume that you want to defragment, and then click Properties.
  3. On the Tools tab, click Defragment Now.
  4. Click Defragment.
3 What you should notice is that old computer may lack of RAM. The machine configuration never keep up with the computer development. Now the basic requirement is 1 GB.

Why a brand new computer is slow?
1 I think you forget to update the anti-virus. When merchant install system for your, they also install antivirus program for you. However, the anti-virus is not updated to latest virus database.

2 Sometimes, it is Windows fault. You have to update SP2 to SP3. Suggest you download all microsoft patches.

How do I reinstall the driver for the sound card?

Cookies are managed in the browser, which can't disable sound on the laptop, so it's unlikely removing cookies had anything to do with the audio.

I suggest following these instructions which reset the CoreAudio process. grayed out

No sound

you simply have a speaker shorting in your car. Either an old speaker with a bad voice coil (short) or a speaker who's contact(s) are touching metal. This type of short or grounding will cause the internal audio amplifier to shut off to protect the radio's output circuit. To diagnose which speaker is the culprit, you'll need to disconnect all speaker leads from the radio and one by one re-connect them until the output shuts down again. The safe way to check is with a voltmeter. If you connect one side of your voltmeter to ground and test each speaker wire lead for continuity, you'll hear an audible "beep" whe you find the grounded wire/contact. A professional car audio shop can diagnose this for you if you're still having difficulty. Hope this information was helpful.

Sound only works while testing and is usually low. DVDs or any sound from the internet do not work. This problem has been there for a long time and its really irritating me. Thank god i found this site....

I will assume you have windows xp, since you did not state with OS you are using. Is the sound turned up on the volume control? On the volume control make sure both the wave and master volume are correctly set.

If you do not know how to open the volume control, goto start, then click run, not type "sndvol32".

If this is not the case then you are having driver issues with your sound card. Make sure the sound drivers are installed and configured.

First check the volume control then check the drivers.

Fan Running, computer heating, task bar disappearing, everything is slow

It sounds like you've already started doing some things that can help you discover what is causing this problem, and that's good, but before I offer any more ideas, can you please tell me two things:

1. How much RAM (memory) does your computer have?

2. How much total hard disk space does your computer have, and of that, how much is available?

NO SUGGESTION TO YOU, BUT MINE JUST STARTED DOING THE SAME THING TODAY. IT STILL WORKS CORRECTLY WITH THE REMOTE, FOR NOW! I CALLED DUAL. THEY OFFER AN EXCHANGE FOR OUT OF WARRANTY UNITS, BUT THE EXCHANGE COSTS MORE THAN I PAID FOR THE ORIGINAL. I REALLY LIKE THE FEATURES OF THIS UNIT, IT'S UNFORTUNATE ABOUT THE NON-REPAIRABLE VOLUME CONTROL
