I would send it back to the manufacturer. apparently the trackball has a problem and it needs to get fixed. or u can go to a blackberry specialist and tweak the trackball so itll work better

The rollerball on my Blackberry Curve wont scroll down

You have two options to repair your trackball. 1) you can send it to a repair facility or 2) You can repair it yourself.

To repair it yourself, you will need to gain access the trackball (rollerball) and its sensor and clean them.

The silver ring which covers the trackball can easily be removed if you use a small screwdriver to lift it at the outer side of the ring. Be careful here! Like you should be during the whole process as all parts have very small plastic nipple which can break very easy. When the silver plastic ring is removed you will see the inner trackball component which can be removed completely.
.
Before doing this you should carefully remove the silver metal ring that holds the trackball component in its position. The trackball component itself can also be carved. For every direction the ball can roll towards- you’ll find a sensor wheel. Those wheels are mostly carrying or covered with some gunk you should clean them from.
.
Once this is done put everything back together to the place the pieces came from and secure the trackball with the silver plastic ring you removed in the first step. Your BlackBerry’s trackball should be back working now.

How to fix a faulty Blackberry rollerball/trackball

There are a few relatively simple solutions to fixing a faulty Blackberry rollerball/trackball.

Compressed Air

Spraying some compressed air on the ball and round the sides of the ball can sometimes loosen the compacted dirt & dust on the rolling mechanism.

You can pick up compressed air from your local hardware store.

WD40

Spray a tiny amount of WD40 on a cotton bud and rub it onto the rollerball. This can free up the mechanism and lubricate it.

Removing and Cleaning the Rollerball/Trackball

  1. Using a small flathead screw driver gently prise the silver ring around the rollerball from the top (be extremely careful as the catches are made of plastic and can break easily)
  2. The rollerball module should come out with easy
  3. Using a clean paint brush, gently brush the inside of the Blackberry where the module came from
  4. Using a toothbrush clean the rollerball module gently around the rollers on the underside and also clean the actual rollerball
  5. When replacing the rollerball module it will only fit one way so don't worry about putting it in upside down
  6. There are three plastic catches on the silver ring, there should be one at the bottom & two at the top. Line them up on the phone and press it back in place gently.

Replacing the rollerball/trackball

Sometimes the mechanism or the rollerball can be come damaged and cleaning will not solve the problem. In this case you can replace the rollerball by following the instructions above about cleaning and purchase a replacement rollerball from eBay or one of the other countless online stores that see Blackberry parts.

I would always recommend that you buy genuine Blackberry replacement parts as these are usually of a higher quality than copies.

My BB Curve 8330 is freezing up, black screen, none of the buttons or rollerball will work for a minute or so and then it seems to just come alive. It's been doing this almost daily now for a few weeks.

Try doin a soft reset to see if it fixes your problem(hold down alt, the right shift(button with aA^ on it), and del until the screen goes black). If that dont work, you can take it back to the provider that you got it from(ie sprint ex..) If youve had it less then a yr and they should replace it for you bc the phone comes with a 1 yr manufacturer warranty. Or if you are paying the monthly fee for the warranty then take it back and they will replace it anyway.

I have a trackball that is sticking on a blackberry bold 9000 how do you go about changing one out and is it the same size trackball as a curve

1. It is the same trackball as the curve.

2. Unlike the curve, where you can just pop the silver ring out from the front and the entire trackball comes out, on the Bold, you have to take the unit apart.

3. To take the bold apart follow these instructions:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yvs4VM5d_rk

4. Make sure that the contact underneath the trackball is not dirty. Take a QTip and some rubbing alcohol and clean the contact on the mainboard which makes contact with the trackball.

5. You can then replace the trackball from the curve into the bold, although, if you dont have a spare trackball, you can also clean the trackball with rubbing alcohol. To do this, I would put a solution of 50% rubbing alcohol and 50% distilled water (regular water is ok, but I prefer distilled). Shake it around (or better yet, use a sonic jewelry cleaner)and make sure to roll the ball around to loosen any dirt in the unit. Underneath the rollerball there is a little tab (that is called the spoon). Do not bend the spoon, rather make sure that the area between the spoon and the ball is cleaned out.

6. let everything dry and reassemble.

If you dont have a spare rollerball and want to buy one, There are many for sale on Ebay at around $5.

Rollerball won't select, does everything else.

i have heard that if you take it to the store, they will clean corrosion out from the underside of the ball that causes interference. I have the same problem intermittenly but I haven't taken it in yet.

My blackberry is completely frozen and i cant press anything

You phone could just need a simple reset if the problem is based upon the software.
To do that click the link below to download the Blackberry Desktop Manager and the Blackberry Device Software for your Curve and run the app loader to reset your device
