Whirlpool 465 Gas Stove conversion from propane to gas?

A friend got a slightly used stove that was set up for propane. On natural gas the burner barely lights just by the pilot light. Where are the orifices/items associated with the kit or do I just adjust something??

It is a Whirlpool Super Capacity 465
how do you get to the regulator or the orifice's? I don't want to break any thing and it seems hard to raise the cook top!

SOURCE: Whirlpool 465 Gas Stove conversion from propane to gas?

Do not use the stove until its properly converted back to natural gas. It's a serious carbon monoxide hazard.
Most ppl throw the orifices away, sometimes they are stored under the stovetop in the back, or behind it. The original natural gas orifices are the only parts you need. All orifices are labeled by a tiny stamp on the side. It will state the size and type, example: 10 LP.....meaning number 10 size and propane.
A nature gas should be labeled something like 12 NG.
Call a local parts dealer or order online the NG orifices for you model number.
I assume you do not have the setup instrctions that come new with the unit. Heres what you need to do:
1) Change the orifies to NG (the bigger the burner the higher the size number) so if you have two #10 size, one #12 and one #14...then common sence will tell you where they go.
2) convert the regulator. This is the part to which the inlet connects. Remove the vent cap,(a plastic cap, you'll see it) unscrew and flip the insert over and reinsert it (You'll usually see 'NAT' on one side and 'LP' on the other). Reinstall the cap, and that's done. The word NAT should be facing you where you can read it.

3) Then, find the brass orifice that supplies the bake burner (usually under the range, behind the drawer), and if included, the broil burner (usually inside the oven). These are adjustable, and, like adjustable top burners, are simply 'snugged' down clockwise with a 1/2 inch wrench. You need to screw these back up for natural Gas.

You know when the oven is correct, you should get a nice blue flame on top as well as in the oven. Flames with yellow tips are wrong!

I've just converted my stove from natural gas to propane and the oven and broiler flame are both to high, how can I lower them?

When converting from natural gas to propane you have to switch the regulator to propane. then on most modern stoves you have to turn the orifice hoods down to adjust for the higher pressure of propane. there are some stoves that you have to purchase a propane conversion kit with different orifices for the burners and oven burners.

Black is on the burners

the fuel to air mixture is set incorrectlty or your pressure at the ouitlet for the gas valve is too low.
you culd play around adjusting the first part of this but for the gas valve part you have to have a manaometer to check it out correctly. then it should be set at 10"wc. Good Luck

My new gas stove (propane) is releasing black soothe when lit. All the pots are covered in this black powdery like substance. Whats the problem and how can i fix it. It's really costing me a lot to clean .

All gas stoves are set up for natural gas. Before using on propane, the oven and burners need to be converted for propane operation. Refer to the installation manual for conversion requirements for your particular stove.

Whirlpool 465 Gas Stove conversion from propane to gas?

In most cases the orifices can be removed and reversed to convert from lp to natural gas. Sometimes you will need a conversion kit and you will need to look this up by model number. 465 is the oven capacity not the model number. You can locate the model number by pulling the drawer out and looking behind it. Please let me know the model and I can let you know what kit you need. Also I should let you know that your gas company is the most qualified to convert your range, and this conversion should not be attempted by anyone who is not qualified. If this conversion is not completed properly you could be risking your life and the lives of everyone in your home, so make sure you know what you are doing!! Or get a qualified person. Good luck and please be careful making any changes to your gas appliances. Please dont forget to rate me also.

Change from lp to propane on my whirlpool stove

Propane is LP...(i.e. Liquid Petroleum)

The burners are working only as a fluke. It is extremely dangerous to operate a natural gas stove on propane. STOP USING IT IMMEDIATELY. Call your local propane supplier and ask them about converting it to LP/Propane.

Are you using natural gas or propane (LP)? It sounds like you may need to change the orifice size on the gas lines going to each burner. If you are using LP and have the orifice set for Natural gas, the flames will burn higher and hotter, causing heavy soot. Under each burner, there should be a small nut with a hole in the center at the end of the gas line. The hole for Natural gas has a slightly larger diameter than one for LP. Your stove should have come with extra orifices as part of a conversion kit. Could this be the case? There's also another orifice in the main gas regulator in the back of the stove. Have you checked to see if the orifice for the regulator is set correctly? Does the oven burn hotter than usual with heavy soot, too? If you could please answer these questions first, I can give you better advice. Let me know...
