Top feeder for my canon MP530 won't accept paper

Whenever I place paper in the top feed slot for my printer, it jams on something and printer won't even accept the paper. I've been using the bottom feeder for most of my printing needs but I need to print some documents on legal size paper that won't fit in the bottom feeder tray. Think I may have to **** it up and get a different printer?

I have the same problem and have been using only the bottom paper tray. I will try to pull it apart and see what I can find. Will post if I find a solution.

Nope, no creasing with the bottom tray. Actually I was fiddling around with the top feeder and I don't know what I did but whatever it was, wasn't good. Now my printer refuses to print period!.

I was wondering if you also have a crease on your printing, starting recently when I print from the bottom feeder I get a crease down the center of my paper. This may be related , has it happened to you?

When I try to scan from top feeder the printer will not accept it. Is the only way to scan from the glass? The scanner is really slow as well.

Just take ruber band out and flip it. And put it back, It works. Main reason is rubber is dried. Frugalguy's suggestion worked for me. Thanks.

SOURCE: paper source

I would suggest checking printer properties in the computer and ensure the paper size and source is Letter and set to Automatic Choose. Another choice may be to deleted the printer driver and re-install it. You can also go into the menu options until you get to Set factory defaults, press Select, then try the print job again.
I really suspect a program is controlling this from the computer.
To get a list of the existing printer settings, Select Menu and use the Right Arrow button until you get to Printer Menu Settings. The printed report should tell you what your actuall settings are. Maybe the default is set to Custom, instead of Letter.
The Set Factory Defaults option should fix most problems.

Go into the paper menu and set the multipurpose feeder paper size to letter. It will work if the paper size is set correctly for the MPF.

The feeder won't work, which interrupts the faxes, if I have to feed it one page at a time.

Open the ADF and clean the rollers:
The rubber treads in the rollers wears down, making them smooth, so they won't pick up the paper. Sometimes, they are aged, which also gives them a smoother rounded texture, causing jams. The quick fix is to liven up that roller with a mixture of alcohol and soap. Damp a rag with the solution and wipe the rollers clean with it. That's make them more pliable and the paper jams will cease.

My 1900 printer power is on and flashing slowly and the paper/garbage light is on and not flashing.

Hello.

You most likely have a paper jam or a paper feeding problem. Paper may have jammed in the sheet feeder, manual feed slot, or roll paper slot.

Sheet Feeder or Manual Feed Slot: Press the
paper button to eject any jammed sheets, then open
the printer cover and remove any paper jammed inside.
Press the paper button again to clear the error.

Hope this helps.

When trying to scan, the printer keeps telling me there is a paper jam in the upper feeder when there is not.

my bet is on that adf the adf driver board has blown a fuse and is keeping the feeder from the clutch on to push the paper through. either that or something has jammed the feed roller sensor and won't let it drop back down into place

Paper feed jamms the paper all the time, will not feed without jamming from bottom tray, top tray jams every 2 to 3 prints or print with the top corner bent

Unless both feeder rollers went bad at the same time, which is unlikely, it must have something to do with the paper. It might be slightly damp, or not the correct kind. Try using high quality matte white paper from a brand new pack and see whether it still jams.

Paper jam

Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.

If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
Turn the printer off.
Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

If the paper is lodged too far into the printer and can't be removed:
Press the power button to turn the printer off.
Pull firmly on the paper to remove it. If you can't reach the paper because it is too far in, raise the front cover and remove the paper from the front of the printer.
Close the front cover.
Press the power button to turn the printer back on.
Resend your document to print.

Ensure that:
The paper is a recommended paper for inkjet printers.
You do not force the paper down into the printer when you load it. For example, if you are loading letter or A4 size paper, the top edge of the paper should extend above the top of the sheet feeder.
The printer is on a flat, level surface.
The left paper guide is against the side of the paper.
You do not load too much paper in the sheet feeder. Depending on the thickness of your paper, the sheet feeder can hold up to 100 sheets of paper.
The left paper guide does not cause the paper to bend in the sheet feeder.
Your printer feeds regular paper as expected. If regular paper feeds without causing problems, load the envelopes vertically against the right side of the sheet feeder. Make sure the paper guide is against the side of the envelopes.
Envelopes or the appropriate specialty papers are selected in the printer driver.
You are using a paper or envelope size supported by your printer.

Paperfeed snatches the paper

It is usually the same with most ADF's if you put in a single sheet.
