Error Code F5 E5

I have a Kitchaid oven - It has an error code of F5E5 - What does this mean?Tried the oven self clean function for the pre set 3.5 hours and got an F5-E5 error code after 30 minutes. Is it an electric grounding problem (which is what the guide says an F5 message is).

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

On most KitchenAid models, error code F5 E5 indicates that upon initiating the self-Clean, the oven was not able to reach the prescribed/expected temperature (normally within 45 minutes). Components to check would be the door closed sensor switch and/or door is locked sensor/switch.

In some instances, this could just be a glitch and a reset could be performed:

  • Press and hold any key for 1 minute to clear R failure code from memory.
  • F2 will appear.
  • Press CANCEL and observe for 1 minute to ensure operation is correct.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

T.O.D. = Thermal Overload Device (sensor) has probably melted. Unfortunately there is a KNOWN dangerous problem with these ovens that KitchenAid has not recalled (as of yet)

The error code means Self clean temperature not satisfied after 30 minutes
. If door not latched:

Disconnect power from unit.
Check wires and connectors from control to latch switch, then from latch switch to control.

Code F5E5 after using self cleaning on KEBC107 Kitchenaid.

Hi, f5e5 stands for clean temperature not reached after 30 minutes. You should check your door gasket, hinges and you latch to make sure the door is sealing. You can take a piece of paper like a receipt and put it in the door and pull it out with the door closed to feel for resistance on the paper. If there is no resistance on the paper then the door is not sealing. you can try hitting the stop clear button for 3-6 seconds if that does not take the error code off then turn the breaker off for about 30 min.

In some instances, this could just be a glitch and a reset could be performed:
  • Press and hold any key for 1 minute to clear R failure code from memory.
  • F2 will appear.
  • Press CANCEL and observe for 1 minute to ensure operation is correct.

F9 error code while using the convection baking function

This is a lock switch error code. Check wiring to door lock switch (the wire harness may be connected wrong). Check for stuck lock switch. If the switch cannot be re adjusted, it must be replaced.

Self-cleaning feature of GE Built-In Oven does not work

Simply set the Clock and Delay Start to the current time, then set the Stop Time ahead 3 hours. For example, if it is currently 8:00 then set the Stop Time to 11:00. The lights on the console will come on and the cleaning cycle will begin. At some point during the cycle when the oven gets hot enough, the lock mechanism is "fixed" and will not release until the cycle is complete.
