Gracenote updated but system still not reading cd info

Hi,

I have gone onto the club philips site. I've downloaded the latest gracenote file & burnt to cd. I've placed the cd into the centre & the display 'updating gracenote database' appears - so it all looks like it's working fine. Once the message 'update complete' appears I remove the cd & place a cd from my collection (which is on the gracenote database as I checked this) into the centre - but it still won't read it. The cd in question is about 2 years old so I cannot understand what is wrong. Are there further steps involved in updating the database? Have passed q onto philips but al they came back with was 'check the cd is on the gracenote database'. Any idea how to solve this?

    I don't have another system to check it on. If the cd is listed on gracenote site then it shouldn't it be working? I've tried several cd's and none of them are being read.

    it is reading the cd - it diplays 'track 1, track 2' etc and will play the cd, but it isn't displaying the album/track names....

    i can't see any 'display album name' option, but it didn't have a problem reading older cds.

    it mentions different pressings of cds, but i've tried 6 or 7 cds and none of them work, all the older ones were fine so i am not sure if this is the problem either. maybe there is just something wrong with the update, though it looked to work fine...

    thanks welcomejee - i guess i should have mentioned that this is the 2nd time i've updated the database (i used a new cd 2nd time around) both times it said update successful

    does the firmware have to be updated to the latest version? does that impact on the system taking in the gracenote update?

    but i've checked the database and all the cds i'm trying to put on the system are on there, so i don't think that could be the issue

Hi there.

If the firmware gets damaged during update , or the procedure interrupted, then the Philips system itself may get damaged.

When you have a problem of this kind is very important to call Manufacturer, so that if the unit gets damaged during update operation, they can take responsibility and cover the repair for the failed upgrade.

Call Philips using the number listed on the user manual as soon as possible.

    After upgrading or restoring the Center’s firmware, you need to re-establish the Wi-Fi connection between Center and Stations.










    How to re-establish the Wi-Fi connection between Center and Station








    1. To reset Center, check the Center is switched on


    2. Press MENU on the Center (or on the remote control)


    3. Press to select Settings and then press to enter


    4. Press to select Restore settings and then press to enter


    5. Press to select Yes. The set is rebooted. Language selection screen appears


    6. Select your desired language: English, Français, Español, Nederlands, Italiano or Deutsch


    7. The Center enters Installation Mode


    8. Remove the power plug of Station and then connect them to the power supply again


    9. Press MENU on the Station (or on the remote control)


    10. Press to select Installation Mode and then press to enter


    11. The Wi-Fi connection is being re-established


    12. Press STOP on Center when all the Station(s) are found


    There may be some other signal interference to cause the problem. Try to change the WiFi channel to another one to avoid the problem.



    How to change the WiFi channel


    1. Connect the music center to your PC, and then run WADM software. WADM software will auto detect the music center.
    2. Click Device Configuration button.
    3. Click Wireless Network.
    4. Expand the option of Device Wireless Channel ID to select another ID.
    5. Click Apply to confirm the setting.





    Restore your Center or Station to its default setting (including the network setting).






    On Station

    1. Check the Station is switched on.

    2. In AUX mode, press MENU.

    3. Press to select Settings and then press OK.

    4. Press to select Restore factory settings and then press OK.

    5. Select Yes and then press OK. The set is rebooted. Language selection screen appears.

    6. Select your desired language: English, French, Spanish, Dutch, Italian and German. The search for Center starts.



    On Center


    1. Check the Center is switched on.

    2. In HD mode, press MENU.

    3. Press to select Settings and then press OK.

    4. Press to select Restore factory settings and then press OK.

    Hope you have checked out every detail on how to submit the CDs and are using a licensed software to update it you can find the list of the licensed software again in the same link also if you have gone through the link properly it states:
    ".... it often takes up to 48 hours for a new submission to show up in the software application. The Web site search is compiled less frequently than the most queried CDs in our service."

There may be multiple printings of the same disc by different distributors... and yours may not have included the initial read track on the disc where all that information is located.

Many times it is noticed when the disc is purchased at a mass retailer like WalMart or the like.

You can manually put the CD into the gracenote database. it will use the initializing # instead to remeber it in the future.

Please see your user manual on how to do this.

Its the problem of the lens in the unit thats not reading the disk properly.open the door of the player and clean it with cotton or dry tissue and check out inserting the cd.if still the same problem.open the whole unit with proper screw driver and then clean the lens manually and check out.if still the problem it needs to be taken to repair center as the lens is faulty needs replacement. thanks

After update, system should be powered OFF for couple of minutes then power up again and check.

    Can you please unplug system from AC outlet for few minutes and replug back in and check.

    If the update file was fine and updated system properly then it is necessary to reset system by powering it off.

    Burn an other CD with fresh update and try again to update your system. After update completion, turn off system ( unplug) and power up again.

    ok...
    please note --- when you burn a cd make sure the burning speed is not more then 16X or 32 X.

    Try to play a CD after Burning it in low Speed.

HI, check the version of your update. You might be using the wrong updating software to update or the update was interrupted.
Make sure that you are using the right software update.

Not reading any cd format


Hi i have just been able to sort this problem, if your system says "NO CD" after it is inserted then the CD is not sitting right inside, solution for this is, join the philips club (free) and update the firmware and update the Gracenote software

1, insert the cd so it is in then turn it off and unplug then take another cd insert it in slowly to push the other one down a bit until it stops (may only move a couple of millimetres, you are only using the cd as it fits the slot so don’t try and insert it!!) plug the centre back in and turn the centre on, it will boot back up and eject the cd that’s still in, wait until it is fully booted and insert the cd again, that should work

OR

2, insert the cd so it is in then turn it off and unplug then you can open the product and physically push the cd down (be careful when you take the lid off as the cd will not be fully slotted down and there are a couple of cables that can pop out but they are easy to put back and obvious) Put the lid back on and plug the centre back in and turn the centre on, it will boot back up and eject the cd that’s still in, wait until it is fully booted and insert the cd again, that should work

Downloading a new cd onto Gracenote


First, you have to download a cd player software of some sort, i.e. itunes, wmp, or realplayer.  Once it is downloaded on to the player, you can sync your iriver with the player and you will have fun music to listen to on your mp3 player:)
