Question about Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527 Notebook

3 Answers

I have a Satellite A135-S4527 Laptop and I cannot get an ethernet lan connection. I have tried connecting with a cable from usb port to my home modem, also bought a USB Ethernet Converter and that is not working either. Contacted Toshiba and downloaded software they suggest on to the laptop and that still didn't work.

My laptop has Vista and our regular computer has XP-at some point we got an 815 error message when we were trying various solutions yesterday-we were on phone with the Toshiba people and one problem that we found was that indicator lights on the lap top in the back - one should be solid green and one should be solid amber. We have a solid green and an intermittent blinking amber light.

The computer is not new and I have never used a cable connection - WI FI has worked when I've been out of town. I could not get a cable connection once but it was in a rural area and bad weather so I thought that was the problem but this problem may have been present when new-we just didn't attempt to use it.

The software that we downloaded was for Vista and it did not give any instructions for doing any configuration. The WIFI is disabled.

When this problem first began, we called our cable provider Comcast and we went through the drill, unplug your modem, wait...plug back in. The Modem appeared to shut down and ramp up. After a few basic steps that we already had tried, the "technician" told us it was a software problem...we then download software after contacting Toshiba-that is when I came to "Fixya" and we went through all these suggestions-no luck. My husband took the NB to a Toshiba store and everything worked fine there. We then thought something was wrong with home PC and/or modem. Then my husband had an epiphany-we have Comcast cable for TV, Internet and Phone. He wondered if the 8 hour back up battery for the phone service meant that our modem really doesn't disconnect when you pull the plug. We called Comcast, got a tech, asked the question and that was exactly the problem. There is a small hole on the side of the modem that you need to insert something like a small screwdriver (we use the tip of an envelope opener) and turn the modem off, wait....then reset it. The first technician confirmed our account information and knew we had the package. If she had told us about the reset switch-we would have had this resolved. That is supposed to be part of their standard protocol when a customer has this package. This is the second wild goose chase Comcast Cable has put us through. The first time, they changed servers and didn't notify us to make a change in our e-mail.

the blinking light indicates that you have not installed software properly..........reinstall the drive for vista and configure the settings ...........if you are using wifi in it currently disable it temporarily.....

  • gopinath pasupathy Feb 08, 2009

first of all reinstall the ethernet driver, try to connect now.

second disable all security programmes (if any program is expired then uninstall it)

    third go to start

    click run

    type cmd, click ok

type the following commands and hit enter after every line:

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /renew

    netsh winsock reset

    netsh firewall reset

    regsvr32 softpub.dll

    regsvr32 wintrust.dll

regsvr32 initpki.dll (that takes few minutes)

    regsvr32 mssip32.dll

    regsvr32 msxml3.dll

    regsvr32 msxml4.dll

newer laptop only comes with USB ports. If you have an older printer that uses a parallel cable then it's time to get a new printer or get a parallel to USB printer cable.
