Question about Imperial IFS40 Deep Fryer

Imperial fryer Pilot light works. When you turn the temp. dial you feel the click but does not light the burners. I don't hear or smell any gas. I have replaced my thermocouple, high limit switch and finally combination valve. The pilot stay lit but the burners wont light up. Put in a new roberstshaw 7000MVR took the high limit out of the equation by bypassing it. Still nothing. I am sure the thermostat is working. Even if I jump that it doesnt do anything. Stumped.

Hi there, I would have to guess from what you told, having replaced the thermocouple? or thermopile?, the combination valve, and bypassed the hi limit, and thermostat, that you definitely have pilot being dirty problem, and/or more likely a wiring/connection issue, it sounds like the valve is not wired properly, and it is able to keep the pilot circuit energized, but is missing the thermostat circuit, if the hi limit was the problem, the pilot normally will not stay lit. If you can still read the diagram on the door, recheck it, wire by wire, and let us know. You may have to contact imperial if you no longer have the wire diagram, 1800 343 7790.

Hope that helps, and thank you.

Try to clean the pilot orfice, ive seen even though the pilot stays lit it doesnt have enough millivolts to energize the gas valve.Did you check the wiring really good?

Why i turn on the thermostat, the fire won't light up. why is that?

Assuming the pilot is working normally, when you turn the thermostat up past the current temperature of the oil, you should hear and feel a tiny click in the thermostat. If not, the thermostat is defective. If there is a click, a weak thermopile is occasionally to blame. Sometimes further heating the thermopile with a propane torch will cause the main burners to kick on. If replacing the thermopile does not solve the problem, you have a defective gas valve.

I have an imperial fryer. Pilot is on but main burners don't ignite. Pilot looks normal & thermostat clicks when turned

Number 5 is your thermopile/pilot generator. It is a pilot generator that does 2 things. It holds open the valve with a safety magnet and it operates the safety valve solenoid whenever the control stat calls for heat. Overtime they get weak and will hold the pilot but not operate the valve solenoid. I would replace that pilot generator.thermopile and party on!

Fryer wont lite when temp knob is turned up to 350 range pilot is lit

Observe the thermostat when set to higher temp, you should hear a clicking sound as the mechanical contacts inside closes, at this point, burners should fire up.
Thermostat can be tested by checking the continuity across its terminals (using an ohm meter) when set to a temperature higher than the oil temperature.
Also, the thermopile must be free of soot or any form of dirt and the pilot must have good flame quality, gas pressure should meet the nameplate's requirement.

Hi i have a new imperial fryer and im tring to light it and cant seem to get it to work. any idea on how to get it working?

Have a lighter handy (I use one of the elongated ones for caravaners)
in-between the burners is a pilot light (top right) keep the lighter flame where the gas comes out.
On the right hand side of the fryer at the bottom is a gas valve with a little black knob.
Press and hold the black knob in and gas will come out of the pilot light and ignite by the lighter flame. You need to hold the button in for quite a while. (until it stays lit)
When it stays lit depress the little black knob and turn it anti clockwise. Gas comes out of the burners and ignites from the pilot light. When it reaches temp. it will cut out.
To turn it off turn the little black knob clockwise. To turn the pilot light off, push and turn clockwise.

Hello,I have a Imperial IFS deep fryer S#06301407 .We had a pinhole repaired in tank.I know that tank was removed prior to repair .Unit did work fine other than leak before tank repair. After lighting pilot...

You can use a jumper wire to test the valve. The voltage is LESS than 1 volt so do not worry. Imperial fryers usually use a robershaw gas valve. the 2 outside terminals...left and right.... are where the thermostat connects. Using a jumper wire after the pilot is lit will tell you if the valve is good or if it's the thermostat. You can also use a multimeter and check the continuity of the thermostat.

Burner will not light, but pilot is on

Sounds like you need a new thermo coupler. this is first and foremost.

Can you light the burners by hand? and do they burn hot and clean that will let you know if you have clear intake lines for the gas.

There is a small chance the gas valve is having a problem, not at the burner control but the vavle the thermo coupler is connected to. or worse case scenario moisture in the gas line.

Imperial fryer IFS-40

I had a very simular problem. My fryer would do exactly as you described, but sometimes the pilot light would stay on until the burners tried to re-ignite and then it would go out.
I finally had to call the gas company. They took the pilot light apart and cleaned it. The fryer works perfect now.
Hope this helps!
