not every USB to Ethernet adapter works for the Wii. Here's what I've found from Nintendo's site. You may need to connect with your Wi-Fi and update it first.
Error Code: 51420
The Wii console is not able to connect to your wired router or modem.
1. If your connection worked previously, check to see if there is a Wii System Update that you have not aquired. To get the latest Wii System Update: 1. From the Wii's main menu, select the Wii icon along the bottom left of the screen. 2. Select "Wii Settings". 3. Click the left arrow to get to Wii System Settings 3 4. Choose "Wii System Update" 5. Choose "Yes" to connect to the internet and perform a Wii system update.
2. Make sure that you are using the Wii LAN Adapter made by Nintendo (click here for a picture and connection steps). LAN adapters not made by Nintendo likely will not work with the Wii console.
3. Check to make sure you are not running the Wii LAN Adapter from a USB hub (a device that connects multiple USB products through a single device), as this will likely not work. Connect the USB Connector directly to the modem or router.
4. Ensure that the Wii LAN Adapter setup is correct, and that the Wii LAN Adapter was connected with the console turned off. For step by step connection instructions, please click here.
5. Check to see if the ethernet cable you are using is not working properly, by connecting another ethernet cable from your router/modem to the Wii LAN Adapter. If the connection works using a different cable, then the problem was with the first cable.
6. If possible, try another Wii LAN Adapter. If you are unable to try another Wii LAN Adapter, or are still receiving this error code, please call 1-800-255-3700 for assistance.
The Cable modem must be disconnected from the computer. You cannot use USB and Ethernet at the same time.
1. Turn off power to the Cable Modem and the Netgear Router. Do the same with the computer. 2. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the router's WAN (Internet) port. 3. Connect another ethernet cable from one of the remaining 4 LAN ports on the router to the computer's ethernet port.
4. Now power on the Cable Modem ONLY. Wait for the modem to sync up with your service provider 5. After about 2-5 minutes power up the router and wait about 1-2 minutes. 6. Now power on your PC.
Check and see if you have internet access. If not you may have to uninstall any cable modem software related to USB connection. if this is the case, then you may have to repeat steps 4-6.
Since most cable internet providers do not use proprietary connection settings, your internet connection should be up and running without changing any settings in the router or modem.

Connect a personal computer (not pictured) to an available LAN port of the router. Use a web browser on the PC to set up the router to reach the Internet. 5. Follow the specific instructions that come with the router. There is no additional installation for switches. If you are hooking it up to a LAN: 1. Remove the sticker covering the network connector of the Network Adaptor. 2. Connect an Ethernet network cable from the NETWORK connector of the Network Adaptor to a wireless Ethernet bridge. 3. Connect the WAN port of the wireless router to the DSL or cable modem. 4. Connect a personal computer to the router. Use a web browser on the PC to set up the router to reach the Internet. 5. first check for all the drivers in the device manager....
if every thing is perfect in driver side, then check if the ethernet/ lan is enabled....
then check is the light in the ethernet adapter is lit, when you plug any ethenet cable in it...
still if it is not working, then finally try to update the latest driver for the ethernet controller....
if nothing works, then buy an pci ethernet card and use it.....
you can also buy external cards like usb to ethernet converter...
even belkin manufactures usb to ethernet controller....
The computer has an ethernet adapter builtin, in the control panel disable the ethernet connection Device=NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet and then make sure the drivers for the usb cable modem are installed.
OK. First of all you do not need a special or seperate driver for the Ethernet port. Its factory loaded with your OS.
All you need to do is plug the Ethernet cable into the LAN port on your HP Desktop and then into the LAN port (not the WAN port) of your cable modem.
The second thing is if its only a cable modem, then I suggest you proceed with caution as there is NO built-in firewall on a cable modem. Yes you will get on the net, but you are likely to be attacked with virus the moment you connect. I suggest you check very carefully whether the cable modem (if that's what it is) does/does not have a firewall as you would be very unwise connecting up like that.
Next, forget USB connection to the router/cable modem. That technolgy we've moved on from.. Your Vista shodul be 'plug n play' adn should configure the router for you. obviously that bit isn't so slick on yours.
have you got your lan card drivers installed and is the windows firewall blocking connection as this can cause problems also check that the device is not being shutdown in windows newtork manager, if problem persists then get a converter to change lan to usb and install drivers for camera.
