Yard machine 139cc will only run short time with choke
Runs with choke out.. dies if pushed in. Will only run a short time then seems to flood. After that it will continue to leak fuel from under the air filter somewhere until the tank is empty... crazy. Almost like pressure builds in the tank and won't stop... yet the mower will not run.

Check the float and the adjustment screw on the bottom of the carb. Usually if the float stays up it will continue to leak gas and also will only run on choke. Spray some carb cleaner in there and try to get rid of any debri also try changing your air filter or cleaning it

Your problem may be in the kill switch. To check, spray some starting fluid into carburator directly and pull start. If it sputter runs for a few seconds then dies chances are the kill switch is choking engine trottle as a built in safety feature. If you have to hold a bar down while pulling cord, that disengages the switch. You should be able to see if cord extends. If it's kinked I would replace the entire cable. It's cheap and relatively easy, just pay attention to how you take the old one off. B&S engines are very basic and very easy to fix.
Change out old fuel, change in line fuel filter if there is one - you may have one in the tank, remove and clean carburetor passages - be careful with the gaskets - if you do not tear them they can be used again - make sure screws are tight. You might have to make adjustments to your mixture screws if applicable on the carburetor, clean air filter and plug. Recommend the new E3 spark plugs.
Have you checked the choke that it is off after you get the engine started, the black smoke is definitely from the choke, if you take the carb off and check that the needle closes when it should,as one can easily do an adjustment by bending the float/tab,rgds
Check the carburetor see if all the bolts are tight.check the cylinder head gasket take off plug wire make sure it is away from plug so it wont start. Pull start rope can you hear air being pulled into the engine? if so the head gasket has ruptured or head bolts came lose. Ensure all parts are tight. Ensure fuel lines are not clogged. Check fuel level.
Try rebuilding the carb. It might be your float is messed up. You can also get some carb and choke cleaner and take the sediment bowl of and clean everything in it. Give extra attention to the float and needle valve. They might have some build up that won't let it work properly.
Check your automatic choke ... a cold mower needs more choke, and the auto-choke should release when the motor warms and runs smoothly. If the choke is sticking, the motor will die when it gets warmed up, then start again after it cools down.
