Sony Projection TV - glowing blue in corner of screen

About 1 month ago the corner of my screen (Sony KDF-60XS955) started glowing bright blue. It expands off and on like the northern lights to fill about 1/4 of the screen. I just replaced the lamp with one I received directly from Sony, and the glowing remains. Does anyone have any suggestions?

We have the same "blue" corner in the bottom left hand section of the screen. We replaced our bulb about 4 months ago. It seems that most who wrote in with the problem had the problem "after" they installed a new bulb. Could there be a correlation?

I have exactly the same TV and exactly the same problem! A Sony technician came and told me that there was a recall last year because of the this problem!

Does anyone have any information about the recall?

Bought the same TV from Sears 2.5 yrs ago. I Just replaced the lamp.

Discovered the old lamp has a tiny screen at the top of it for air flow. It was clogged with fine dust. I am convinced this a design flaw with heat. Nothing mentioned in the Manual either to keep it cleaned. The lamp when installed is next to the FIRST piece in a 3LCD lighting engine system. A mirror/glass/silicon device called an Integrator Lighting System Polarization Changer Element. Because of the lack of air flow across these hot halogen bulbs what we are seeing is distortion in the polarization device, warping it along the edges or direct center where the heat is the hottest, yep a corner for heat to escape, which is where we start to see the problem. The light that passes through is affected as a slight shadow (like when a cloud starts to block the sun, but because of polarization it has an opposite effect, to lighten up or change the amount of light as a brighter spot on our screens). I don't think we can just replace it (the single part). So, now, the new lamp is much brighter than the older one and my lavender spots show up easier. There is no fix but to replace the the whole light engine. I don't know how much they cost, but they are basically the TV. Temporary fix from worsening, is to clean the tiny screens on the light bulb every so often. I will do it every 6 months or so. I am bummed about this, too. google search for 3LCD light engine may show you all a picture of how this technology works. Created by EPSON few years ago. TV manufactures bought into the idea and relabled it as 3LCD (3 small red, blue and green LCD's about the size of a postage stamp) Light passes through once (720p) or twice for HD 1080p and then projected through a similar camera lens onto our screens. So, the final word is HEAT. Check the fan, air flow blockage from back of set, nothing blocking the front, keep the dirt out.

That sound like the optical Block or otherwise known as the light engine

This still may be covered by sony's warranty
I would call them and see it is a very expensive part

Problem with sony 60" rear projection TV

Hi,
I'm afraid, it is problem of optical block unit (light engine) that produce picture by 3 lcds inbuilt, the blue lcd and its related uv filters become defective and causing this kind of blue hue on screen.
Complete optical unit block (light engine) will be replaced by qualified tech to get tv fixed, light engine is costly part so ask an estimate before sending tv in.
Thanks.

Bright blue on the top right corner of the screen

Throw the thing away! I have the same problem. can get no help from Sony...Technician says it is the light engine...cost: $1177.00 to fix. Foget it. Old saying "Sony-No-Balogna" New saying "Sony-is-a-Bunch of Balogna. Would never suggest a Sony product to anyone.
Aways had RCA's...each lasted at least 10 yrs with no problem. I have had this set for only 21/2 years.
