Re: operating system didnot reinstall
Try tapping F12 as soon as you turn the system on. Make sure that the CD is inside the CD drive before you press F12. Or if F12 is not the right key to launch you boot options, try to insert the disk, if you see "press a key to continue", then press a key right away. Try another XP CD, if you have one.

Press (right) ALT Gr+F10 before windows loading and the Acer logo is showing to enter the Acer Aspire's reformatting utility. Follow the on-screen prompts. Your laptop's hard drive will reformat and the original applications will be reinstalled. Your computer will restart after the reformatting process is complete. Enter your name and other personal information when prompted during the Windows operating system setup process.
When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media. If you do not have a set of Acer Recovery Media, you may purchase the set online from the Acer Recovery Media Order Form.
If you have the restore disk from the Acer Factory it is a fairly simple process. Insert the disk into the CD Tray. Restart the Computer. A Screen will show that says push any key to boot from CD. Hit any key on the keyboard at this prompt. It will load and then you can begin the Re installation tasks.

if you have any other administrator account, you can log in to this and work with your account.
if you did not enter any administrator authentication(password), when the windows xp was installed, you can easily manage this. press CTRL + ALT + DEL keys simultaneously (two times) and type the username as "administrator". then enter without giving a password.
you can connect your hard disk with any other hard disk. boot through the other hard disk. then you will see your disk drives on the another disk. Try to delete the "SAM" file on your os (C:\windows\system32\). (Only on your hard disk). then reboot via your hard disk. now, you have no need to enter any username or password. just enter and go to the windows desktop
if it is not possible for you, just go for password recovery software
