I would need more details on your problem to be able to help, like:
What operating system is the computer running, what kind of external disk is it, what messages pop up when you plug it in, etc.

Boot system from external hard-disk with USB2

You can check the bios and make sure that it is set to boot from USB. Turn computer off. Turn back on and immediately press F2. This will get you into the BIOS. Look around and find boot properties. Set the boot first to USB. If you do not see the USB option, then your motherboard doesn't support the boot from USB option.

Usb 2.0 problem

If you do turn off USB 2.0, you may have two options, "Full Speed" and "HiSpeed". Make sure you use "Full Speed", as it's faster than "HiSpeed". But the real answer is that you need to install the USB driver for your motherboard. If it came with a CD, insert the CD and read the instructions on installing drivers from it; otherwise, check Asus's website under the Support/Downloads section.
