I am assuming that the packing tape is still on the printer. lift the printer cover so you can see the ink tanks. there may be some tape holding the CD tray insert in place while it was in transport.if not then try and see what is blocking the tray insert.

install the software for the canon solution menu and it nearly gives you pictures of what to do. In a nut shell use the cd label print from the canon solution menu and when you hit print it prompts you what to do. Put the cd on the black tray hiden under the front of the printer. Open the front grey trap door. Reach in and pull down a the black inner tray. There is a small curved half circle cutout for your finger to pull this down. Don't be scared to pull it down it won't break. Place the cd holder with the arrow pointing into the printer and advance it up to the point equal with the arrow on the black tray bit that you just pulled down. Fire off the print button and and the machine autochecks the position and does the rest for you.
I have just bought the same printer. if you have found out how to do this then excuse me. It isn't clear cut but basicaly all you do is :-
1/ Make sure you have a blank label stuck on your disc, you can also buy printable discs.
2/ Place the cd onto the cd holder label side up.
3/ Pull the front cover down - where the paper comes out.
4/ If you look carefully further inside where the paper comes out you will see another flap/cover - carefully pull that down.
5/ you will notice 2 little rollers and an arrow next to the right hand roller.
6/ place the cd tray carefully onto the rollers and align the arrows on the tray with th one on the ptinter.
7/ now your set for the software - open the CD Label Print software - click on new - click on image tab - and either image file or if it is from the scanner then select twain capture - if you select image file then either make your own image for the disc or select an appropriat file from the browes button.
I won't go on any more but just experiment, you will soon see how easy it is.
Select the print dvd/cd cover application, when it opens it shows the outline of the label
Select 'text' and type your text, then adapt it by font, style, size and positioning.
Can preview on the label and drag it around like a text box in MS Word
For images, select 'insert' from the menu on the screen, browse to your phots and select one, then accept it and preview/resize on the label shown on the screen
Then select 'print'
Get your cd hol;der ready, open the front of the printer, then open the flap with 'Canon' on it
Wait foir screen prompt to insert the holder, with the cd upwards facing and at the end nearest the printer
When prompted, insert it so the 'arrows' on the left and right are flush with the front edge of the flap you just folded down
