the monitor comes on, makes a loud hissing sound, then blanks off in one or two seconds. After a few seconds it does the same thing again, and then blanks off in a couple of seconds and then never comes back on. If i turn the monitor off, and then turn it on again, it repeats what i have said above.........

hi, I had the same kind of prob with acer monitor. I just replaced the cap with same capacity, voltage & heating level & now my monitor works perfectly. Please do not try to this yourself if u have no knowledge in electronics. It's dangerous since the capacitor can hold high voltage even if disconnected from main supply. Contacting a electronic technician will be the best way.

Again, the heating level is for this cap is 105. You should not use 85 (Normal) caps since it can explode or damage your monitor & also be dangerous. I used acer monitor for over 5 years now & it worked perfectly till yesterday.

Include me in the people burnt (no pun intended) by crappy quality Acer monitors. Will never buy their stuff again. Ironically, this infrequently used external monitor burnt out overnight, just a few hours after I had actually checked out and decided to buy an Acer Windows 8 15.6" i5 laptop. Definitely not buying Acer again.

Again, the temperature level is for this cap is 105. You should not use 85 (Normal temperature) caps since it can explode or damage your monitor & also be dangerous. I used my acer monitor for over 5 years & it worked perfectly till yesterday. I think it's still good and usable..

Monitor is fried, problem with the inverter but you can't buy parts for it and would have to get a new monitor. I've seen the problem many times before.

Your monitor has high voltage leak from one of the bulbs end to the ground. This leak is in form of an arc starting from the solder on the bulb where the wire ends and ending on the metal frame of the LCD.
The current rises and electronic protection in the inverter turns it off.
You have to take apart the monitor, then the LCD to find the broken insulation and to resolder and insolate the joint between the high voltage wire and the light bulb.

Moniter has flickering and moving stripes

You may have power supply failing, but try this monitor with other PC first, if it still does not work then you will have to open it up.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Acer LCD monitor goes black after 1 second

More likely to be bad caps (bulging top), look for that first, the caps may be out gassing, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Sounds like a component called a capacitor inside the monitor has fried, if your conifedent enough to opent the monitor and replace the component yourself go ahead, or take it to a repair centre.

Hi,
Try other outlet, check the power cord if it contacted the monitor. If nothing happened, maybe it's factory defect, since it still under warranty, you can still change it.
Thanks
