mother board, put in on a phone book or the box it came in in order to
insulate it from any metal. The main cause seems to be a metal post under
the mother board where there is not a screw hole. The post then touches the
bottom of the board and shorts it. The next most common cause seems to be
reseating the memory and try one chip at a time. Reseating the video card
is right up there as well. The reason we like you to set the board up
outside the case is to eliminate any shorting situations and give you a firm
platform to insert the memory. Make sure the video card back plate goes
over the edge of the box so it doesn't push the card up out of the slot.
Clear cmos before you turn on the power and don't forget to return the
jumper to the original position before you hit the power. Use the absolute
minimum amount of devices to start (video, memory, cpu&fan, and a keyboard)
You don't even have to have the floppy drive or hard drives attached.
Another std. one is check the power supply and make sure it is on 110 and
not 220.
