Question about Toshiba TP43H60 43" Television

1 Answer

Excellent picture for a several hours, then gradually dims.

On our Toshiba TP43H60(1999), the pic is fine for 5-7 hours. But soon after, the picture will slightly dim and continue to dim until the screen is nearly black... audio is still there but the on-screen volume control does not show. Once this dimming starts, the red power light also begins blinking. I usually power down the set and let it rest for several hours. It's then good for another 5 hours or so until the dimming process repeats. Any help is appreciated.

The screen went blank and the red light blinked 8 times before the screen re-appeared in it's weakened state. It may have been 9 times, if I missed the first blink, lol.

    Please advise, thanks.

When we turn our TV on we get sound, but our picture is distorted for about 15 min then it's clear. Any sug?

Your TV is about 5 years old.
If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

I have a toshiba 26hl47 with a lighted screan but no pic

Just bought one used on ebay. Seller said pic was ok. Has no pic but backlite when turned on. Horiz. lines at top gradually creep down. Try banging on the back and top of the cabinet and see if the pic comes in. Mine has a bad, cold solder joint on the board with the audio ckts (upper right as you face the unit. I haven't found it yet. Very frustrating,it worked for 5 days ok but came back. Curious to know if yours is the same. PS: I am an electronics eng/tech.

Toshiba TV (about 7 years old)

You had parts in the vertical deflection circuit failing, most common are the vertical output IC and possibly several capacitors also in the same circuit.

I replaced the C3 capacitor on the circuit board and works fine. This was mentioned in a prior post and took 5 minutes and was under $5.00 for the part.

Picture Jumps/flashes for first 5 minutes

There is a module called a hyper board that is vertically mounted near the jack panel. Inside the module are 10mf/25v capacitors they are grtting weak. The module is fully shielded and pluggs into a socket. the module has 4 tabs (2 on each end) that must be unsoldered before it can be unplugged. This repair should be done by a qualified technician. The caps are surface mounts and very small. Unless you have excellent soldering skills and a rock steady hand DO NOT ATTEMPT to repair this problem on your own.

Wavy picture

this is caused by a bad convergence module, and there are probably some dried out electrolytic caps in the circuit as well. i have one in the shop right now that came in with the same problem. if you have it serviced, make sure they replace all of the convergence modules (there are usually 2, but sometimes 3 of them), because if one went bad the other(s) is likely to go out soon as well.
