Question about Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera Model Wrong

The camera show up as "Canon IXU DIGITAL 10" when connected to computer and all photos are tagged with this camera model name.
Somehow Windows XP managed to rename the camera. Probably because I have been uploading photo from a friend who also has an IXUS 70 and Windows got confused there was two devices with the same name and allowed to rename one. Whatever the cause the problem now is that I'm stuck with a wrong camera model and cant find a way to change it.
I have been looking for a camera reset of the IXUS 70 to no avail. I have tried to rename it in Windows XP Explorer, but the device name stays the same.
Tried to find other ways of renaming the camera, including using Photoshop Elements and Mac OS X, but haven't been able to come up with a solution.
Hope somebody will be able to help me so I can avoid the trouble of submitting the camera to Canon to do a factory reset.

The SD1000 is also known as Digital IXUS 70. If it is showing "Canon IXU DIGITAL 10", it could be because of character limit in the field.

If you need software to connect the camera to your computer, visit the site of the camera manufacturer and look for the support tag. There or if you see a field with "your device" (something like that, put the model from your camera and look for the line manuals.
Or in Google tupe "Canon powershot G12 manual" when yours is a G12. But don't click the first hits, with manuals online or free manuals and the brand and model name, because these are phishing sites, trying to install everything on your computer and most of the time don't have the manual you ask for. Just open the site, where the brand name comes first. Next time you have a question, please add the brand and model name in the question.

Memory card reader for digital ixus v2 model canon camera where available and what price?

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS TO COMPUTER
If your photos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

I can not download the photos from a canon powershot SX210 IS to the computer.. The canon utilities camerawindow show the photos but when i try to download them it appears an error.. i don`t know...

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

I have a new Canon PowerShot A570 IS. I am unable to download photos to my i Mac computer. When I click import it says 'no camera selected' although the camera is limked to the computer and...

Go to your hard drive and click on Applications/Image Capture and it should allow you to choose which camera you are downloading from. This is assuming that your camera is being recognized by the computer. You can find out by turning camera on while connected and in playback mode and going to your apple icon/about this mac/more info and clicking on hardware/usb and your camera model should show up there if it is connecting properly.

If all else fails, try a card reader for downloading, they are known to solve many headaches!

Hope this helps!

Canon Powershot A70 Digital

When I got my A70 I got a CD with the software. If I connect the camera with USB cable to the computer, set the little lever on the back for the camera to display whatever pictures are in it, and turn the camera on, the computer recognizes the camera, opens the software and leads me through the process.
If you have some other photo software than the Canon software, it should still work.
