Question about HP PSC 1610v All-in-One Printer

Scanner Failure I have the HP PSC 1610 all in one...when I try to scan or copy an item, I get an error message that says "Scanner failure turn off and turn on power" I have tried this method over and over and it still doesn't work.,..Someone please help.

    don't know what u want to I wrote above...The printer from my computer works but when I try the scan or copier part the scanner scans across the item and stops and than the scanner error message turn off and restart the copier comes on....always....

    low rating? 1st of all if u read my situation u would have seen I wrote 1610 not 1610V and I rated u thanks for trying...because u weren't maybe u have the issue not me.

    Disconnect the printer Remove the software program, if you have the disk , then reinstall it.

I have a HP PSC 1610 with the same problem.  I discovered that a piece of ribbon cable that the scanner travels over had become crumpled and was preventing the scanner head from traveling.  I solved it by removing the glass piece (as described in  Then flatten the ribbon cable and tape it down securely with electrical tape.  Mine is working fine now.  Good luck!

I don't want to know anything. I want, (wanted) you to attempt what I had suggested. I am not positive it will work and I did not want you to score me low but would rather have no score at all.
1. Disconnect the Printer/scanner  2. Uninstall the software. START- CONTROL PANEL -either  ADD AND REMOVE PROGRAMS or PRINTER AND FAXS  _ Highlight printer and tell it to REMOVE PRINTER. 3. Hook the printer back up. Run the install software that has the correct driver for the version of windows that you are using.
The HP link for your model that I provided to you is to download the software to install , if you ether have the wrong driver or have lost the install disk ,if you ever had one.      Look at what version of windows you are using and see if the disk states that it is for that version of windows, like Xp, VISTA, 98, etc. If it does not you must download the correct software.      I was attempting to avoid asking all of the needed questions such as; Is this a new problem or have never had the scanner work correctly? New computer or same one? Computer Make and model?  Version of windows that you are using? All of these things enter into a problem such as yours.   I hope this helps. |:)

My HP Photosmart C5240 will print from computer but will not scan or make copies.

Is there any error message displayed on the control panel of the printer just like one of the following:
Scanner failure, power off and on
Scanner System Failure
Scanner failed, cannot make copies or fax
Scanner failure. Unable to scan, copy, or send a fax
Scanner failure, cycle power

You may want to try following these steps:
1. Check if the scanner light does turn on when you initiated the scanning process, if not you need to reset the product.
2. Try using your other electrical outlet because your AVR or Surge Extension may not be providing enough voltage for the printer.
3. Try using dirty cycle, meaning you need to directly cut the power of your printer by pulling of the power cord from the rear side of your printer and wait for about 30 seconds before inserting again and turn it on.

If all these steps do not improve your printer functionality, you may want to call the HP online help and ask for replacement.

Help on HP PSC 1610

The all in one solution software you used in XP doen't work with Vista.

But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (ie HP 1610) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.

Our scanner wont work the printer and copier work fine

You should be able to find a white sticker on the bottom of the printer. The serial number will be there as well. If you have the PCS 1610 than follow the uninstall instructions given by Hp at this link:
Than go to the link below and download & install the 1610 software: HP Full Feature software/driver: No Network Support &
HP Image Zone/Photo and Imaging Unexpected Internal Error and Communications Failure Patch
That should fix your troubles. Look at the fixes while at Hp and if you feel you need other upgrades now would be a good time to download.

I can't scan

This document applies to the PSC 2210, PSC 2210v, and PSC 2210x. When you see the scanner failure message, turn off the PSC 2210. Wait a few seconds and then turn on the PSC 2210. If you see the message again, please contact HP Support.

I get message " scanner failure".

Here it is all over, with all the steps.

1.Unplug power cable from printer.

2.Hold Cancel and Enter. OR you could Hold Cancel and Black Copy Button. Whichever is easier

3.Then plug back in the power cable, while still holding those 2 buttons.

4.It should turn on, lights blink, then it should say FULL RESET on the little screen thingy .

5.Let go of the buttons, and hopefully, it fixed your problem.
