After years of successful usage, my Sony dvd recorder rdr gx7 has begun to give me a disc error message when I try to load a previously recorded disc. It says it cannot read the disc. These are discs that I previously recorded on this machine! It is the recorder, not the discs, as I tried more than one disc with the same result. If I try to load a commercially prepared disc (such as a purchased movie), it is fine. It is only happening with the Sony DVD-RWs that I have been using for years.

SOURCE: Need 3 digit code for controlling sony rdr-gx7 dvd
This is a common problem for the Sony RDR-GX7 dvd recorder.
It seems to occur with various remotes (DirectTV, Bell ExpressVu or in your case, the time warner cable remote).
In most cases, the problem can be solved by using a different remote frequency from the system menu as follows:
Insert a dvd and make sure it is not playing (stopped).
Enter the System Menu then / Setup / Options / Command Mode (this can be done from the access panel on the front of the unit). There are 3 possible values, (DVD1, 2 or 3), try changing it.
Then enter one of the suggested codes for your Warner remote (in my case, for Bell ExpressVu I selected the DVD1 command mode
and I used 883 as the 3-digit code. The up and down arrows are not functional with this code but I bypass this problem by entering the menu item number. Good luck!

could the problem be a slipping disk?
I had this and cured it by opening up the player and levering off the round cover on the dvd drive, removing the weighted magnet, then cleaning the rubber seat.
