Just got my Acer laptop - the webcam is working fine - it came with Msn Messenger and made an account to use the webcam, but apparently you cant add any contacts to the messenger unless they have a "net passport" ? Is there any way around this or is there another messenger i can use for this ? How do i add contacts ?

Re: Webcam not allowing addition of Contacts
YOUR FRIENDS ALSO NEED TO HAVE A PASSPORT
OR MAYBE THE WANTS YOU WANT TO ADD ARE ON YAHOO MESSENGER WHICH YOU CAN DOWNLOAD
THERES NO WAY TO GET AROUND IT THEY HAVE TO BE SETUP FOR ONE THE MESSAGING PROGRAMS

Here are the steps to use web cam on MSM:-
Log in to your account at the MSN Web site.
Locate the "Webcam" icon underneath your display picture.
Click the "Webcam" icon.
Select "Send My Webcam" to the person that you want to send your video to.
Wait for your chat partner to accept your Webcam invitation. Once he or she accepts it, your live video feed will begin.
Finish sending the video feed by clicking the "Webcam" icon once again.
Open the MSN Messenger program on your computer.
Show or Hide Your Webcam
Open MSN Messenger on your computer.
Click the "Tools" menu and then select "Options" from the drop-down list.
Locate the "Personal" link and click it with your mouse.
Find the "My Webcam" area and either select or de-select next to where it says "Allow Others to See That I Have a Webcam." This is handy for letting those in your chat list know whether you can have a video chat with them--whether or not they have Webcams.
Good luck, do rate the solution if got help
Adjust your browser security setting to allow webcams if you have flash micro media you will see the camra security but if you go to internet setting you can ajust the broswer setting from there .make sure that your firewall allow your webcam .then let me know how you did
I know a lot of people are having problems with the acer cam
if you updated msn try going back to your old version
or if you have'nt updated it you can try that.
The only other thing is to uninstall cam and reinstall
I've had to that so many times on my acer crystal eye cam
I'm not sure if your problem is fixed yet or not, but I had this same problem when I updated to windows live 2009. But whenever I deleted it and got an older version of live it works just fine. So, I think it's msn and not the webcam..but i'm not positive about that. Mine just seemed to work after I got an older version.
uninstall your msn reinstall then in the file on your msn beside where you add contacts click the arrow then tools then setup audio and video.
Then exit msn and restart
This seems to be a constant problem with msn and built in cams
