What have you changed or done lately when this started happening?

have you upgraded your video card, added any new devices, Downloaded anything that might contain a virus?

Any messages pop up or errors?

usually this haoppens do to a Hard ware error but other thing can cause this.

There are dozens of reasons, impossible to narrow it down without some details about what you've tried so far. Virus / spyware scan lately?

Power off from lack of use?  Power settings.
Pwers back up? Bumped mouse or floor shook?

It keeps shutting itself off ?

When does it shut itself off? Is this happening time you press the power button and during the boot cycle it shuts off without completing the boot to windows? If it shuts down after you've worked on it for a while it could be that it is running hot. If you let it sit a while to cool off then press the power button, if it completes the boot cycle and allows you to work it is definitely running hot. Normally when they run hot if you immediately try to reboot, it will fail. If you let it cool off it will boot successfully. Computers run hot because of a fan not working, dust clogging the fan vents or the Thermal Paste around the CPU and Heat Sink has become hard or too thin to keep the unit cool. If it's not running hot you might have a power supply or motherboard issue. Try removing the power cord and press and hold the Power Button for 30 seconds to release any Static Buildup. Then plug the power cord back in and try to reboot.

Hp pavilion a815n, ASUS PTGD1-LA motherboard. Specifications state can do processor upgrade intel pentium 4 3.6-3.8 ghz w/HT technology. I did computer doesn't support and shuts down. anything I c

Hi James,

Your best bet will be to visit the Asus website and click on the 'support' tab at the top of the screen. Select the link for 'drivers' and specify your motherboard model. It's possible that there will be a BIOS update for your Asus m/board.
If so, do a BIOS flash and check if your PC will then accept your new CPU. NB! Take care when flashing the BIOS. Make sure there are no power interruptions etc. while performing this procedure as this could corrupt your BIOS software and render your motherboard useless.

Feel free to message me should you need more details or further assistance.
Best wishes,
Graemevm

My ASUS Essentio has a weird problem. Everything starts to freeze up and things stop responding. I think I have an overheating problem, but I'm not sure. What should I do?

Memory issue? Too many programs at start up. You can shut down what you don't want by Ctrl+alt+delete! that starts the task manager. Close all the unnecessary programs.

Computer suddenly shut down and won't restart

This type of shutdown problem occurs mainly due to following few reasons, 1) SMPS problem 2) RAM failure 3) Over heated mother board chip(s) or seldom over heated CPU 4) Virus or worm problem or OS problem. 5) Over heated power cords
Do the following steps one by one (to detect the exact source of problem) First replace the CMOS battery, change SMPS, check power cord, run the PC directly (without UPS), remove the data cable from hdd. if it runs well then set the data cable with hdd, if it does not work then definitely there is mother board/cpu problem. And if it creates same problem after fitting the data cable - change the hdd or format hdd and reinstall os. your problem would be solved.

I have a Compaq Presario SR5350F which suddenly has started shutting itself off after being on for about 5 minutes. I ran the test stuff and it didn't show anything wrong with the hard drive or processor....

First thing to do if you have not cleaned the inside of the computer is give it a good cleaning. There may be enough dust inside that it is overheating. Reply if that is not the problem.

Dell PC Power Save Mode

When you first plug it in and turn it on, the monitor will shut itself down with only this little note until it receives a signal from the computer to do something else.

You will have to double check the computer as well, and ensure that it too, is turned on. If this is the case, then your next step is to ensure that the monitor and the computer are talking with each other, that is, you'll have to unplug the monitor from the computer and plug it back in again.

If you do all these things, and you still have this message, then something may be wrong with your video card. At that point, you may have to consider taking it to a professional.

good luck

PC Shuts Off with No Warning!

Hyperthreading is not active in a dual core system. It is a software phantom core that is used for single core processors that support hyperthreading, eg Pentium IV 3ghz and above.

I think your problem lies in the power settings that you have selected. This problem appears when incompatible hardware is present on the system and you have allowed the system to go into standby and/or hibernate mode. Pull up your power settings in the control panel and make sure that no standby or hibernate options are selected. See if that helps.
