Question about Webroot Spy Sweeper (spysweeper) for PC

Spysweeper program damaged after a.exe download

I was downloading some music when Spysweeper alerted me of a quarantine. Within a few seconds, my PC auto restarted and now it says the Spysweeper installation is damaged. I cannot reinstall...same error--to scan for the bug. Now, i cannot access any programs or copy/move any folders within the PC. I'm basically dead in the water... no Internet, email, no programs! The only thing that works is deleting files. I noticed an "a.exe" icon on the desktop---slightly shaded. I deleted the icon. Some readings on internet say to search for the a.exe process and kill it. It's not on my PC. Whatever this is it's well hidden. I looked at the running processes and found ISASS which some believe to be harmful. aall others seem ok. Do I delete it??? If it's not harmful, will this process automatically return after startup? Anyone have any solutions other than reformatting????

I want to uninstall spy sweeper but I can't. I get a runtime error. How can I uninstall?

Hi Friend,

Close the SpySweeper Program
  • If SpySweeper isn't closed properly, it may not uninstall completely. Click the SpySweeper icon on the Windows toolbar, then choose the "Exit" command to close it. Hold down the "Control," "Alt" and "Delete" keys at the same time to open the Task Manager. Select "Processes" and look for a process called "spysweeper.exe." If you find it, choose it and then click "End Process." Next, look for a process called "WRSSSDK.exe" and follow the same procedure to close it if you find it.

  • Uninstall SpySweeper
  • Go to the Windows "Start" menu from the toolbar, then choose "Control Panel." Locate the "Add/Remove Program" option and choose it. Once the list of available programs is populated, find and select SpySweeper. Click "Uninstall" and let Windows complete the uninstall process. You will get a message when it is done.

  • Test the Computer
  • Reboot your computer, and once it has restarted, look for the SpySweeper icon on the toolbar. If it is absent, hold down "Control," "Alt" and "Delete" to open the Task Manager. Under "Processes," look for "spysweeper.exe" and "WRSSSDK.exe." If the uninstall was successful, you will not find them. If they are running, end them and go through the uninstall process again

I am trying to uninstall webroot spysweeper with antivirus but cant find it to remove it, what should i do?

Under normal circumstances, like any other Anti-Malware software, Webroot will protect itself. You cannot randomly shut down its service. You cannot use most external uninstallers.

Always try to uninstall it using Add & Remove Programs first (on XP) or Programs and Features (In Vista and 7), or the uninstall link in All Programs on your start menu.

If you are not able to find it in any of these places, get the official cleanup utility from Webroot directly at:

    http://download.webroot.com/SSCCleanup.exe

This utility is made to cleanly shut down and clean up Webroot SpySweeper, Antivirus, and Internet Security Essentials and will even remove itself when it's done.

Unless you have legal and fully licensed Spy Sweeper advise you to uninstall spysweeper and instal Spyware Doctor Starter Edition (Free). There is known fake named Spy Sweeper virus software.

If it is oryginal do not ignore alerts! This software is to protect you and your computer against malicious software.

    Webroot spysweeper won't sweep

Try doing a system restore to a day before you started having the problem.

If that does not work, reinstall spysweeper.

If still no luck that can be because of a virus or spyware yhat had damaged the spysweeper software , and probably also the system.

The best solution in this case is saving all your data, then formatting the disk and performing a new system installation.

Before formatting and reinstalling windows you can try the following software, it is one of most powerful, it is safe, and it is free.

    Spy problems

    First Try This:
Try to uninstall Spysweeper and reinstall (Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs)

If it gets nasty reboot in to safe mode (follow these steps):
    1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
    2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
    3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the "Windows XP with networking"

Once you are in safe mode do this:
    1. Download the free microsoft app "Autoruns" from http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/Autoruns.zip
    2. Extract the .zip file
    3. double click the file "autoruns.exe"
    4. The program will start autoscanning your computer to see what boots up with it (it will take a few min.... bottom left of screen tells you when it is done)
    5. Make sure you are in the "Everything" tab (which loads up by default)
    6. Hit CTRL + F (to do a Find)
    7. Type "Spy" and hit ENTER
    8. The first entry containing the word "Spy" in your startup instructions will be highlighted
    9. Look at the "Image Path" column, if it contains anything like "C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\" uncheck that item
    10. Press F3 to see the next item containing the word "Spy"
    11. Keep repeating steps 9 & 10 until you get through the entire list
I'm guessing you might find the following:
    C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeper.exe
    C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SSU.EXE
    C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeperUI.exe
    12. Reboot as normal (spysweeper should not load up)
    13. Attempt uninstall, reinstall again

    Spysweeper alert

Just give a NAME to the rule is what they are asking, you don't have to know any more than that. You do not have to know how it works or 'what it is'.
Select (on the menu bar) Tools then folder options, then View, put a check in the "Display full path in the title bar" hit the "Apply to All Folders" then the "Apply" button. This will give you the full path of where the file is located.
