Question about Pinnacle Studio MovieBox USB Video Capture

10 Answers

I try to connect the Pinnacle MovieBox Deluxe (USB2) unit and it says "USB device not recognized" "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it" Is this a driver problem or a Windows problem. Pls advise how to fix it as I have tried loading software few times and drivers (updates from the Pinnacle web site) and none have worked. I have connected it to various PCs and the same issue.

Click select >run>type regedit
then goto

HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Usb

Create the Usb key if it doesn't already exist. Under this key, create a new DWORD value called DisableSelectiveSuspend and give it a value of 1. Then restart the PC.

it will sove ur problem...it is a driver fault..

It seems that many people are still getting the 'USB Device not
Recognized' problem from time to time. Unfortunately there is no easy
    fix.

Firstly, it's recommended that you make sure every one of your
motherboard drivers are completely up-to-date, but you probably already
    knew that.

In XP, after a USB port isn't used for a long while the USB driver
built into the OS sets the OHCI controller to suspend. When you plug a
device back in, it can sometimes fail to 'wake up' properly. This
problem was supposedly fixed in SP1 but there is a related registry
hack that may still be able to help.

    Run regedt32.exe and navigate to;

    HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Usb

Create the Usb key if it doesn't already exist. Under this key, create a new DWORD value called DisableSelectiveSuspend and give it a value of 1. Then restart the PC.

A long shot perhaps, but I recall having similar problems with a
USB hub built into my Microsoft keyboard and adding this key seemed to
solve it. It wouldn't hurt in trying .

Alternatively, removing all entries relating to USB in Device
Manager and all associated USB drivers will force XP into refreshing
    the USB driver stack.

Begin by unplugging all USB devices, then use Add/Remove Programs
in Control Panel to uninstall any USB driver software. Next, boot up
into safe mode and go to Device Manager. Once in device manager make
sure 'Show hidden devices' is checked under the View menu. Uninstall
    all device entries in this order;

    1. USB peripheral devices (printers etc.)

    2. HID and/or Composite USB (Human Interface Devices) You're using PS/2 input devices so you may not have this entry.

    3. USB Root Hub(s)

    4. USB Host Controller(s) (Universal or Enhanced Host Controllers)

Then boot back into Windows (not safe mode) and it should populate
the Root Hubs & Host controllers again. Proceed to plug your USB
devices back in, starting with your powered hub. Be aware that most USB
printers and scanners need to have their drivers installed first before
    you plug them in.

Hopefully some of this may be of help, let us know how you get on.

This statement answers your question.

" I have connected it to various PCs and the same issue."
The problem is with the Pinnacle MovieBox Deluxe itself or the usb cable coming from it.

  1. Check the usb ends to make sure they are not damaged.
  2. Try a different usb cable.
  3. Make sure the computer has usb 2.0
You can identify whether your PC has Hi-Speed USB or not relatively easy.
Open Device Manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus section.
There should be an "Enhanced" USB host controller present.(if not just update the drivers)

These drivers are provided by the manufacturer, and may carry the maker's name (i.e. ADS, Belkin, IOGear, Siig, etc.). There should also be two "standard" version USB host controllers present as well. They are embedded in the USB chip which routes the differing USB speeds accordingly without user intervention. There are currently 7 manufacturers of the Hi-Speed USB host silicon themselves:
  • ALi (Acer Labs)
  • Intel
  • NEC
  • SiS
  • VIA
  • nVidia (shows as "Standard" controller)
  • Philips
Any other brand name that appears in Device Manager would likely be an add-in Hi-Speed USB PCI card. The makers above do not make add-in cards, but they do make the chips that are used in them.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A few ideas to consider:

  • have you tried replacing the USB cable?
  • do the LED lights up on the Pinnacle MovieBox Deluxe when plugged in/powered?
  • if the unit has been in service for some time, you may want to check the hardware; that is open the unit and check for a any cold solder issues either on the small USB connector or the power/regulator circuitry.
Would appreciate any updates. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

It can be the hardware or the windows or the drivers or even a wrongly configured bios.so please try this

  1. Unplug and then plug in the device.
  2. If the computer prompts you for a device driver, read the information that was included with the device, or visit the manufacturer's Web site to see whether a driver is available.
  3. Run Windows Update to obtain the latest fixes for Windows XP. When this is complete, plug in the device to see whether it is installed correctly.
  4. Also consider flashing bios

I have a pinnacle moviebox 510-usb. The specification contains, you can streaming from analog secam source, but in importer section i can't see any video after switched secam mode, while the vcr play...

Be sure that your MovieBox capture device is selected under Studio's "Setup/Capture Source" selection (assuming you're capturing analog). If the MovieBox doesn't show up in that selection window, there could be a problem with the device.

Additionally, check in the Diskometer left-hand panel (this is found at the center of the bottom of the screen) and see that the correct input port value (either composite or s-video) is selected.

If you're capturing digital, then you'll have to use a Firewire connection to the MovieBox device.

Hope that's helpful.

Does moviebox usb work with studio 14 and vista? I can't get my camera to show as an import device when connected to the movie box.

This is the latest hardware device that can used for Studio 14.

Check the list.

USB based
  • 710-USB
  • 510-USB
  • 700-USB
  • 500-USB
  • MovieBox Deluxe
  • DVC-103
  • DVC-107
  • DVC-100
  • DVC-90
  • DVC-130 (There are no 64-bit drivers for this product.)
  • DVC-170 (There are no 64-bit drivers for this product.)
PCI based
  • 700-PCI (a.k.a. Pinnacle Studio Deluxe 2)
  • 500-PCI (a.k.a. Pinnacle AV/DV)
  • Any 1394 cards.

Are you using vista 32 or 64 bit system? If Vista 64 bit there is no driver for your device and the only available is 32 bit only. Aside from that you can check also the video cable you were trying to used. If firewire under import/capture tab of Studio 14 you need to select the name of your camcorder or dv camcorder. Check that out and try.

Computer does not read

Have you had any other devices that use the USB port have any problems. Sounds like you have an error with your USB drivers on your computer. I would suggest that if you are using a microsoft product such ash windows XP or Vista they have a program that will fix your USB drivers. Try running the program and then try your movie box again and see if that works. One other thing have you tried it in a different port could be a damaged port on your computer.

Thanks,
Mark

Pinnacle MovieBox USB Power

You can use a universal one but it has to be 3.3 Volts at 3 AMPS and the tip of the plug must be positive. If you have a radio shack by you they should be able to get you the correct adaptor.

Thanks,
