Question about Kenmore 22422 Top Load Washer

Replace motor clips

I replaced the motor coupler on my Kenmore washing machine. The motor was held on with two clips and two screws. I can not get the clips reattached. There are 4 rubber "feet" on the back of the motor. I have it placed so those "feet" fit in the holes, but I still cannot get the top clip fastened. Is there a trick to it?

Thank you. I finally used books to hold it up and kept shimming in little ones until I got it firm enough to get more leverage.

No trick, just be persistent. Try doing the top first and then the bottom. Hope this helps!

Washer won't aggitage or spin

Kenmore washers use a coupler to attach the motor shaft to the transmission. The coupler is designed to shear off to protect the motor.Often the repair is to replace the coupler (sears part # 285753A, $18.50) If you flip the washer over you can visually verify that the coupler is broken.Disconnect the hoses to the water pump by removing the hose clamp). Then remove the two small screws holding two clips, called retainers that attach the motor to the transmission. the two assemblies will separate at the coupler.

Replace motor coupler on top loader Kenmore washing machine

Hi, Are you asking how to change the coupler?
Here is how:
Removing the cabinet. UNPLUG the washer. There are two screws holding the control panel to the cabinet. Most models the screw are in front but, some models have the screws in back. They are on each end. Now raise the control panel up and let it rest on the hinges. Unplug the lid switch harness and locate the clips on each side (bronze in color) and release them.
Now the cabinet will lift off the frame and you can set it aside.

How to replace a coupler:
Now that the cabinet is out of the way, remove the pump from the motor and set the pump off to the side. Remove the two screws holding the clips on the motor and remove the clips. Unplug the motor harness and on some models you wil need to unplug the capacitor.
Now you will need to replace all three parts to the coupler. I use a ½” socket and a small hammer to force the coupler onto the motor and transmission shafts. Put the rubber part onto the coupler half on the transmission and then line up the post on the motor shaft with the holes on the rubber part and it should go on ok. Put the clips that hold the motor in place and plug in the harnesses.
Put the pump back on and the clips to hold it in place. Set the cabinet back on the frame. Make sure the lip on the front cabinet is under the front rail of the frame. Ease the cabinet on the frame making sure the two rear sides of the cabinet set down on the tabs of the frame.
Put the two clips back on that hold the cabinet and plug the lid switch back in. Fasten the control panel down and you are all set.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Washer won't spin

Hello Friend, Your solution is very simple. You need to replace the motor coupler. It's easy to replace the motor coupler on your machine. First, remove the two screws that hold control panel in place and tilt back exposing the two metal clips that hold the cabinet in place. You will see some wires plugged into the cabinet, just unplug them. There are two clips, one on each side. Just pop these clips off and lift cabinet slightly from back and tilt forward. At this point you will be able to completely remove the cabinet. Once you have cabinet removed just set it aside. Now, just lay the washer on it's back. At this point you will see the water pump, motor, and transmission. Remove the pump by snapping off the two spring clips. The pump will slide right off the motor shaft. Now, remove the two screws that hold the two spring clips attached to motor. Unplug all the wires etc. and then snap the metal clips off motor. Lift motor straight up, it should slide right off. Now you will see the motor coupler. Half of the coupler is on the transmission shaft and the other half is on the motor shaft. There is a rubber center connector ring that connects the two together. Just remove the old coupler pieces by prying under them with slotted screwdriver and replace with new ones. Re-assymble the washer and the problem you are encountering should be solved. Happy to help, Tim.

Kenmore 80 series not agitating

Most likely you have a bad motor coupler. If you open the console and remove the two brass clips, this will let the front, sides and top all come off as you tilt it forward. At the botom center, you will find two metal clips holding the pump on. Remove. You will find 2 screws holding similar clips holding the motor on. Removed. On the back of the motor, is your coupler. Replace. Then re-assemble.
