Cannot connect my wireless adapter to Belkin wireless router

Halo there,
I hv a Belkin FD57231-4 wireless router which hv been connected to 2 laptops (wireless) and a desktop (wired) with no problem at all. Recently i got another desktop with winxp sp2, I'm trying to use a usb wireless adapter which i got from my friend (i can't find the brand or model number, it's only show REACH USB WLAN on it. I hd installed the usb wireless adapter correctly, and it did showed up in my icon tray and also hv been able to detect few wirelss network nearby, including my network. The problem is, when i click to connect to my network, it will keep connecting "pls wait while connecting to network" for abt 30 seconds and the screen come back to the available networks window, as if nothing happen. B4 using this usb wireless adapter, i can connect to router/internet by cable with no problem at all. Fyi, i hd tried the following:
- set to obtain an ip address automatically (cannot work)
- set my own ip address (also cannot work)
- enable DHCP in router
- set the wireless mode to "54-AUTO" (if this is what ppl said abt 54mbps)
- clear everything in my temp internet file, im pretty sure there's no spyware or malware in this pc.

Pls help as i really hv no idea how to connect my pc to router/internet by using this wireless adapter, thanks in advance for yr adv!
I am trying to find the security key code or number for my wireless adapter? I found the driver key number is that the same thing?

    ok

it seems that you are trying to use the wireless card utility to connect to the network, try using the windows utility to enable this utility the steps are as follows:

1)go to control panel, network connections, out here you will see a connection that says wireless connections, right click on wireless network conection and click on properties, you will see 3 tabs on tab that is general, wireless networks and advanced, click on the wireless network tab out here there will be a check box that says "enabled windows to manage the wireless configuration"put a check mark besides it and hit apply and then ok(if aply button is greyed out just hit ok),close all the windows that is opened..

2)now click on start, run,in the box type in services.msc and hit ok.A box will appear in that box search for wireless zero configuration, once you find this option right click and go to properties and on the 1st tab below you will see startup which should be automatic incase it has any other option make it automatic and then you will see service it should be started incase it says stop click on the start button and start the service, now click on apply and ok and close the box...

3)now go to network connection and then right click on wireless network connection and click on view wireless networks, you should now see your network, try connecting to it and check if it asks for a security code incase it is secured or it will connect directly if it is unsecured...incase it is not connecting just check besides your netwokr name whether it says automatic or limited or no connectivity..and let me know so that we can perfom another step to rectify it..

4)if you network is secured and you are not sure of the network key you can find it from the computer that is connected to the router,go to any1 of the computer and then click on start, run and type in cmd and hit enter a black box appears and then in that box type in ipconfig and hit enter once the result are out you will see something which says default gateway(eg it will be numbers like 192.168.0.1)make a note of the default gateway and type that number in the address box of your internet explorer, now this page will tell you to put the password it is generally admin or it is blank just try these two options and hit ok....once you do this you will go the the belkin router page and out there you will see option for wireless, click on wireless and there you will find the security key make a note of that key and punch in those number when it says to put the network key when you try connecting to the network....

let me know if you are stuck doing anyof these steps...

    best of luck

Hi,
ok sir i got it if the wireless network is detected then try and connect and the if it doesnt connect try and connect in safe mode with networking sometimes wireless doesnt work in safe mode, but still try that, uninstall and reinstall the wireless driver for adaptor and then open the gui page(router page with the default gateway page and then change the wireless channels and also turn off the firewall, and from the start, all programme turn on the wireless adaptor utility and then start the services of wireless zero configuration from services.msc.....then if it is connected with the ehternet cable, then what u can do is that go to the router page and then also put a check in the let the windows controll the wireless network......and it will definately work and if it doesnt work then reinstall the operating system......good luck...

if it is a little bit also helpful pls.rate this soultion for me pls.....

Set the SSID on at the router side. Alternately you can enter the SSID information manually at the computer side.

If it does we can probably search for more information.

Did you configure your router using WEP, WPA security (using passphrases) on your router?
Did you enable MAC address checking on your router?
