Can anyone give me some advice on the best ceiling fans to put in my new house? We're putting in a lot of them, both indoor and outdoor, and I want to make sure I'm not replacing and repairing them every year for the next thirty years.
In my current house I have three Hunter fans and one offbrand, all indoor. They've all been in this house for 20 years with no repairs. The Hunters look better, and seem to be much sturdier, but as far as service goes, they've all performed well.
My wife and an interior designer picked out several different models of a brand called Quorum and I'm concerned because I've never heard of them. I didn't much care for the paint jobs on them, and materials-wise they didn't seem all that sturdy.
Any help/opinions/anecdotes would be greatly appreciated.

Hunter is way to go..if problem accessing attic for install, Home Depot sells brace assembly you install up into access hole and you twist/expand between ceiling joists. Very slick!

When I was looking for ceiling fans for my place, I looked at Emerson, Hunter, Casablanca, and a couple of others. After eliminating ones that wobbled or hummed, I was left with the three I named.
After that, and talking to people, it came down to personal taste. I went with Emerson Tri-Stars for the first two and have been happy with them, for all that they've been up for a few weeks now. :-)
Good roads,

Well, you never know what you'll learn from other people's experience. I was surfing on this subject in Deja and saw a lot of contradictory opinions, but not a lot of insight as to why people had the opinions they had. I also hit some consumer sites and read some reviews on ceiling fans. Hunter scored well, but there was also a brand called Beverly Hills that I'd never heard of. So you never know

I agree, you've answered you own question. Hunter has built a name for quality, they've been around for over 100 years. They have the best motors, both American made and imported. Even their imports fans are made at their own factory. Not like other brands that buy a fan from another distributor overseas.
Even when you do have the occasional problem, their customer service is great. I had a problem last year when one of my fans that is over 20 years old (I got it from my parents house). They had me fixed up in no time.
By the way quorum is a target knock off. Stay away from it, if it breaks, good luck getting it fixed.
