    Thanks for the response.

I did try another lens and it worked fine. After a while however the 75-300 (Canon) started back working fine all on its own, i was at a waterfalls today so maybe the moisture in the air affected it.

Thanks for your help though, much appreciated

Just to clarify, this is a Canon 75-300mm lens, and not another make?

f00 is the same thing you get when no lens is attached to the camera - take it off, switch on and you'll see the same error.

It sounds like either the lens or the camera is faulty - do you have another lens and/or camera to test? If you have another lens and it works, I'd say the 75-300 is faulty. If the other lens is also faulty, I'd say the camera is bad so try to test the lenses on another (you could take it into a camera shop and they could try it on one of their cameras).

One possible thing to check is that all the contacts are clean on the lens and camera, no dust or dirt anywhere.

Take the camera back to basics, put it in fully auto mode, with just the lens on and see if it acts any differently.

Hope this helps you

Your camera has a feature called MF (Manual Focus) if it is switched to MF, the autofocus won\'t work. If on the right side of the screen is MF, you are sure the camera is in that mode. You can change that in Recording Menu 2.

The manual is still online.

Aperture ring won't turn

When the camera is set to autofocus, let the camera do the focusing. If you want to focus manually, turn off the autofocus so you can turn the focusing ring.

Autofocus canon 600d

There is a seperate sensor for the autofocus. IT is either bad or dirty. You may not be able to clean it either.

Just bought a new eos d600 . How do I turn on the autofocus?

Set the autofocus switch on the lens to AF. Press the autofocus button on the camera (right on the cursor pad) to bring up the AF mode. Use left/right or turn the command dial to select the desired autofocus mode and press SET.

It's in the "Changing the Autofocus Mode" in the manual (page 83 in my copy).

I have a weird problem. When i put the 50mm 1.8 on my D90 it continues to autofocus even when I switch the camera body to M mode instead of AF with the switch. I would like to be able to manually focus...

You probably have a problem with the A/M switch on the body-- flipping that switch should extend or contract the autofocus pin that drives the lens. This particular lens doesn't have its own focus motor, so there's no way that it could be focusing on its own without the pin from the body driving it.

Try taking the lens off of the camera and looking at the autofocus pin as you flip the switch from auto to manual focus.

I have a pentax zx-60 and i am taing a photo class how do i set the camera on maual but still be able to change the aperture

Use the exposure mode to metered manual mode using the [mode] button until the [M] is selected on the far right of the LCD screen.
The [M} is to the right of the [Tv] and [Av] selections.

Also, there is a switch on the camera body where the lens is attached... switch from AF to MF (UP position) (AutoFocus to ManualFocus).

The meter inthe viewfinder will continue to work so that tou can use the built-in meter to assist in your manual configfuration.

Good Luck! Photography is a great hobby and profession!

Autofocus on 300mm 2.8 IS not working with 50D

Make sure the AF/MF mode button on the lens is set to AF.
What focusing mode do you have selected in the camera? Single Shot, AI focus or AI Servo?
If Custom Function "C.Fn IV -1 Shutter button/AF-ON button" is set to option 2 or 3, the AF will start when you press the AF-ON button.
I hope this help you!

I BOUGHT A PENTAX K10D THAT CAME WITH A VERY NICE AUTO ZOOM LENS. I OWN SEVERAL OLDER PENTAX LENSES THAT I USED ON MY K1000 CAMERA AND I WANT TO USE THEM ON THE K10D. I CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE SETTINGS THAT...

Hello,

I don't own a K10D, but I do own a K100D which I have successfully used both manual focus & auto-focus lenses from my old Pentax stash!

1) If it is a manual focus lens, you need to turn off Autofocus on the body of your K10D. On my K100D, there is a switch on the side of the lens mount that says [-MF or -AF]. "-MF" is manual focus mode & "-AF" is autofocus mode. Since your lens doesn't have autofocus capability, turn it to the "-MF" mode.

Also . . . When I press "Menu" and go to "Custom Setting", I change two settings . . .

1) I change "Using aperture ring" to "Permitted". This allows you to use manual lenses (M lenses) that do not have an auto(exposure) setting, and also lets you use Auto lenses (A, KA, KA2, FA, etc.) in either the Auto or manual aperture setting modes.

2) I change "Fl with S lens used" so that even with a manual focus lens, although I don't have autofocus capability, my K100D beeps and shows a little red square in the viewfinder when I have successfully focused manually!

The K10D should have the same options.

This should get you up and running!

I have had a load of fun with my old lens on my new digital Pentax!

Take care & Happy Imaging!

Lens

If this is a manual focus lens, you will need to do two things (and an optional third thing.)

1) On the side of the camera, you have to switch the focus mode switch from "AF" (Autofocus) to "MF" (Manual focus) . . . Yeah. I know, you probably already did that. <grin>

2) When you press Menu, go to the Custom Setting and change the Allow aperture setting to on, so that the Pentax K100D will then work with manual control of the aperture ring. You need to do this or the K100D will not work with manual exposure lenses (M lenses) or even autoexposure lenses (KA, KA2, FA, etc.) when you move the aperture ring from the "A" position to one of the manual aperture settings!

3) This is optional, but in the Custom Setting you can also turn on the Fl in manual focus mode, so that even though you don't have autofocus capability, you will get a beep indicator when you have successfully managed to manually focus your lens.

I have a few nice manual focus lenses that I have a lot of fun playing with on my K100D.

Take care & Happing Imaging!
Glen
