Kenmore side by side model # 58582891- Fan will not run until....

Fan will not run until I reset the temperature dial from the T-stat from off to 3/4 coldest temperature range, then it will run again for a day or two and stop, the compressor is very hot. For the fan to run I have to reset the T-stat again.

My Kenmore side by side is hot around the door frame. How can I reset or rebot it, if possible. Model #10657943700

Getting warm around the door is OK but getting hot around door indicates a restriction of the airflow below your refrigerator. The compressor produces hot Freon that is pumped out the discharge side of compressor. On many refrigerators the gas goes to the yoder Condenser Loop first and then cooled by the condenser fan motor before going to the freezer section as a liquid.

sea_breeze_196.jpg

Anything restricting that airflow will cause the yoder loop to get hotter. Example a defective condenser fan, dusty conditions below refrigerator or room temperatures way above normal for a kitchen or room inside your home. Insure fan stays on when compressor runs because a defective condenser fan does not always stop when defective. Most refrigerators work best with room temperatures in mid 70's to middle 80's. In this case rebooting may not change much but unplugging for 10 minutes and then replugging the power is the same as rebooting. Making sure that airflow is good, fan's stay on with compressor and room temperatures stay in the normal range. If helpful please rate this solution, Thanks Sea Breeze

there is a sensor that turns the fan on when it detect a high degree of warm air flow or if the door is open is job is to inject cold air into the fridge compartment allowing the food to stay at cool temp as to why it ran for so long is probably collapsed sensor or faulty door switch / magnet as to it wearing its self out not to worry fans can run for months non stop with no harm the ,ain point now is ! is the fan still running it should come on when you open the door the fan is a crucial part of the fridge and must be working correctly

2 year old Kenmore side by side refrigerator is too warm

the freezer feeds the refridgerator with cold air, when you open the freezer door,do you hear the fan blowing,if not you need to change the evap fan motor, next take out the second from bottom food bin and touch back wall,if you feel snow or ice you have a defrost problem, you'll have to take off back wall, advance the timer till it clicks into defrost and see if the heater comes on,if so you have a bad timer,if not read out the t-stat and the heater,if there are plug in wires on t-stat unplug them and bypass the t-stat by plugging t-stat wire to heater if heater comes on change t-stat,leave the heater on to help you defrost the ice off of evap coil and use hair dryer to melt ice, hope that helps

Long run time between defrost cycles

You have a broken defrost part. Either the heater, t-stat or timer. The longer you let it go without repairing it, the more parts is take out.

Freezer and fresh food compartment are warm.

The fridge thermostat is faulty and not cutting in at the required temperature. Fridge stats are not easy to test, so the best way is to bypass the stat to see if the compressor starts. To bypass the stat first unplug the appliance and remove the stat housing from inside the fridge compartment, once you have removed the housing you will see the stat inside. Some stats have 2 terminals some have 3, whatever yours has you will need to connect the compressor wire ( Black) to the live wire (Red or White). When you have bypassed the stat plug the appliance back in and switch on, if the fridge starts up and runs ok you will need to purchase a new stat.
