My Norton AntiVirus 2008 Upgrade removed to facilitate free downl

Due to a continuous pop up ad for a free download I clicked on it just to get rid of it and downloaded the free offer online. In doing so my Norton AntiVirus 2008 Upgrade was removed without asking me if I was sure about this. I would most definitely have said no as my version is not due to expire until Sept 2009. My Order number is is 4918459015, order date September 7, 2009, Product Key V76DKV7KF4WK4K3B3TBTMQRTP, Product Serial Number: CJTMCRC2PMGW. I want my Norton back. In the meantime I have uninstalled the free download as I could not initiate it and was prompted to do so and I have installed a free 30 day download of Norton 360 in order to have some antivirus protection on my pc.
My email address is garryoleary@eircom.net

I have been basically robbed by Norton. I paid for a 2008 Upgrade due to expire in September 2009 and Norton removed it from my PC without asking me. I have given you the appropriate details of my receipt. If Norton does not reinstate my 2008 Upgrade or refund my credit card within 10 days it is my intention to pursue this matter in the small claims court.

The pop up was most definitely not Malware because Norton, whilst removing my 2008 Upgrade also installed a free download which I could not activate. I stayed up to 2am in the morning trying to locate a contact telephone number for Norton or Symantec or a contact email for them WITHOUT SUCCESS. I do not want bells and whistles, I simply want what I paid for my Norton 2008 upgrade. As regards authenticating my bona fides I will be happy to furnish you with any documentation or detail you require. Please advise exactly what you are looking for.

Avast antivirus is totally free and it updates automatically more often than Norton.

If Norton removed it from your PC, there was a reason. There is a free Norton package but you obviously want ALL the bells & whistles. When you contacted Symantic, what did they tell you? What was their reason for removing it? If you didn't contact Symantic, why not?
How did they get access to your files to remove it? If you are filesharing, or if you gave them permission to access your hard drive, then you have no recourse. The continuous pop ad was obviously malware so, you have issues other than Norton.
As for my "Whatever" comment, you marked my response as inappropriate, simply because I mentioned another antivirus that will protect your system but I didn't walk you through reinstalling Norton with the numbers you gave me. I have absolutely NO WAY of authenticating your information. FixYa will not reinstate your program, since you didn't buy it from FixYa. FixYa is a FREE ADVICE website, unless you opt for premium answers.

Since I obviously don't have the answer you want, I'll suggest you look elsewhere.

Want to restore laptop to factory settings

Hi victoria...

You don't need to do anything as drastic as a system restore to your laptop!! Is your AVG a free version or do you pay for a subscription?

If it's a free version, this is probably the ad to upgrade to the full version. i don't use AVG so i don't know what their ads look like... you will find this happens with some free software... i know it's not spybot because i've been using that for years and it has no popup ads.

to get rid of the ad, you have to pay a subscription, or just bear with it, if you're happy with the free version, and close the popup.

you can also try another free antivirus program if you want... be sure to uninstall the other one first. Avira is good, and only pops up an ad when you update the program or virus file.

hope that helps!

Hi
Antivirus 2008 is an adware program - a form of virus. You should be able to get rid of it using a good antispyware program or something like norton antivirus. If you do not have a program installed I suggest you try using spyware doctor:
http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/download/

That will help remove antivirus 2008. I also suggest you install an antivirus program if you do not already have one. I good free option is AVG antivirus:
http://free.avg.com/

Together these programs should help solve your problem and prevent further virus infection.

Hope this helps, good luck!
