You can try to download it from PS website to a USB and then manually updating it. 1 go to website and look for your version and download it to usb 2 put usb into ps3 then to setting and look for updates then update from external. Hope that helps.
Hey there! A possible simple solution to this is going to the Playstation support site or click this link. Then download the update that you need and put it onto a thumbdrive and insert it into your PS3, and use your PS3 to update through the update on your thumbdrive.
First go to this website, http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/SystemUpdates/PS3 and click on the download now button just under the big ps3 and save it to your desktop or any other place that you can get to the file easly. Now get into your j-drive and make a new folder named "PS3".
Now click on the PS3 folder and make a new one called "UPDATE"Now put the downloaded update file ito the "UPDATE" folder that you just made.Take the j-drive to your ps3 and plug it into the usb port.Once done with that go to settings, system update, update via mass storage device.Follow the directions on the screen to complete the update.
Back up any of your save info, reformat the drive , download sony's latest software into a thumbdrive and trying restoring the system
If all that wont work, replace the DVD drive. I have one in the shop like that
If your PS3 is connected online it should have the newest update already. In the event it's not. You want to go to sony playstation support.com insert a USB thumbdrive into your computer. Download the newest update, insert thumbdrive into the USB of the PS3 under system settings select install update. It will take a few minutes then your PS3 is up to date.
If your PS3 is telling you to format your hard drive, then it is recognizing it. You have to reformat the hard drive using the PS3, not your computer. If you don't have the option of formatting your hard drive then you may have to download an update from Sony and then run that disc to format the hard drive. Some of the updates will completely erase all saves, downloads, & etc when done from a disc. So be sure to use this with your new hard drive in the PS3, just to be sure not to lose all your stuff on your old hard drive. Sony has a "walk-thru" on these things on their website.
Okay the PS3 has to be abit closer to the Wireless Connection or else it wont work atleast 20 ft away or else its not going to work 1st disconnect the PS3 from the wireless connection and then try to download or you download the patch from www.sony.com and put it on a disc and load on the PS3 and update it.
