Home Network sharing issues using 2wire wireless modem

By kbn505 on Feb 07, 2009

Before installing the 2wire wireless modem, didn't have any problem sharing desktop network (drive & printer) throughout the network using a Siemens 4100 Speedstream modem and Linksys model BEFW11S4. I have tried several things (i.e., deleting all shared components and then re-sharing each device), and still I could not share the resourses on the network. I setup a Home Network on each computer where each computer is assigned same workgroup.

Would like to know what I'm doing wrong in configuring my home network using the 2wire wireless modem (model # 2701HG-B).

- Tried pinging between both computers and I get a "Request timed out". When access shared files from the Home Network tab, I get the shared printer but can't access any of the shared resources. Crazy but something is stopping the next action or execution of the response.

XP firewall is turned off, but my Virus protection firewall is active and I don't want to turn it off. Before going with 2wire modem, I had XP firewall active and Virus firewall active and I could share resources within network without any problem. Why is 2wire so different?

Tried and these are my results....

Clarification Request

ok....
so whats happening when you go to my network palaces and then under my work group computers...is it detecting any computers or is it blank..if u see the computers just click on it and see if it see the shared folders and files...
what you can do is go check if any firewall is blocing the new sharing setup,,,
do this in both the computers,
click on run, type in cmd hit enter and then in the black box type in ipconfig and hit enter make a note of the ip address from both the computers, now the ip address from the 1st computer needs to be pinged from the 2nd computer and the ip address from the from 2nd computer needs to be pinged from the 1st computer.
how to ping, click on start, run type in cmd and hit enternet and the black box type in ping and then give a space adn then type in the ip adress (eg shud b like this ping 192.168.1.101) and hit enter if u get request timed out then there is a firewall blocking,if the ping is successfull we need to check other settings...

do this and let me know...

Did you manually assign the IP address to your shared devices? If so, the Linksys and the 2wire have different IP schemes.

2wire Gateway IP address:
192.168.1.254
255.255.255.0

Do an ipconfig /all on your computer and compare it to the ip scheme on your devices.
