Windows 7 (Beta) and Windows Vista 64 Bit. Step 1. Do not allow the autostartup to run the installation application. You must right click on the CD ROM and select the "OPEN" option. Locate the driver on the install CD. Since my DVD ROM drive is my "D:" drive I located the driver at D:\USB_VISTA32364\BACKUP_2WIRE_VISTA_USB_Installer.exe . Before you click on this you want to right click on this and select Properties. In the properties tab click on the middle tab marked "Compatibility". Make sure you select the checkmark box to: Run this program in compatibility mode for: and use the pull down menu to select Windows XP SP2. This is how I was able to get my 2wire utility to work on Windows 7 (beta) 64 Bit.

How to access your wifi password with 2wire homeportal 1000hw

If you have the setup menu login password you can view (and change) the wireless connection password in the modem setup menu. You'll need an ethernet cable to connect directly to the modem if you can't get to it wirelessly. With the ethernet cable you bypass the need for the wireless password but you will still need to get into the configuration menu, which usually has a password too. After you connect the ethernet cable, open a browser window and enter 192.168.1.1 in the address field and press enter. This is the same web address field you would use if you were typing www.google.com. That 192. address should take you to the modem setup menu. If a password is required it will prompt you to enter the password. If you don't know the password you'll have to reset the modem and start over. (yes, there is typically an actual reset button although many of them are hard to find) After a reset there is usually not a password requirement. Make sure you set all passwords again if you do a reset - want to be sure no one else can get into your router once you are finished.

Check your current rating on the OEM power supply.. I think your power supply needs 2 amps at 6 Volts. The cheap ones at radio shack are usually only 2 ma.

Wireless

Your can try changing the channel of the wireless signal by accessing your 2wire Homeportal's interface. try changing it using these recommended channels: 1,5,9 and 11. The channel is usually defaulted to 6 which most of the time conflicts with other high frequency devices.Hope this helps. If you are unsure on how to access your Homeportal's interface you just need to know the default gateway of your device. just go to start>run>type cmd>click on ok>then on the blinking cursor just type ipconfig/all and the number's beside the default gateway is the address of your 2WIRE Homeportal.Just simply open a browser afterwards and access those numbers you found on the cmd prompt. and it should show you the interface of the 2WIRE device.

How do I set up a home network without internet?

Hi

By default, your wireless connection for your 2wire 1000HW is enabled.Assuming that everything is installed properly in your laptop ie wireless cards etc. than you can view your wireless connection using Dell Wireless connection tool and HP wireless tool. Your know its your network when it says 2wirexxxx {x=combined numbers}. To locate the built-in, 10-digit wireless encryption key for your system, please look at the bottom of the product [2wire] near the bar code label - looks like this : [xxxxxxxxxx].

If you want to access the 2wire Graphic Unit Interface ,you can access it by opening your browser and on your address bar type in homeportal- assuming you are able to connect to your 2wire wirelessly. You can view your network and change you wireless settings. This may also help you :

http://shastademo.2wire.com/rgw3-3/rgw/3-3/homeportal/network/wireless_settings.html

To connect your printer you must have a Print Server [ dep[ends on what model of laserjet you are using } and connected to your printer. Again you will need the encryption key to get it running. You must share your printer on each laptop by going to control panel and share it . In there you willl have the chance to change and modify the settings. You can also use the Windows File and Sharing Wizard. to get it both running.

Hope that would help you a bit. Pls feel free to post your questions in Fixya for further assistance.

Wish you all the best.

Cheers.

2wire HomePortal replacement necessary?

how bout customizing the wireless settings of your 2wire first for a more stable connection. like change the wireless name from it's default and enable a wireless security. you can also change the wireless channel to minimize interference from other wireless device near your area.
if you have done that already, try to upgrade the firmware of your router to check that it's not a firmware issue.
if you have done everything to solve your concern, it's better to get a replacement.
i believe your home portal is a gateway. if so, you also need to have a gateway to replace it and a router is not sufficient.
as long as your laptop has a wireless card installed, you don't need any other equipment
hope this'll help you.

Check your firewall setting and also your security settings for cookies. Try putting less of a restriction on your cookies. BofA and wells fargo require that they can ping you and get your IP address incase of fraud so chances are lowering your settings on your cookies will solve the problem.

Lost Ethernet and Wireless Connections in Modem

I've not used one of these 2wire boxes before, but I believe the default router's address is 192.168.0.1. Try this instead of gateway.2wire.net to see if you can gain access to the router. This is just the starting point, but see if it works.

Here's a link to, what I believe is, the router's manual.

Before you rate this please let me try to help some more. This could be a multi step process...
